So Renshaw. was it poor sprinting or the confusion or something else that caused him to get 9th?

He said on Twitter he had a good position but didn't quite have the legs, i think that crash also threw a few people out, i saw Renshaw having to close a bit of a gap so close to the finish as well

Hopefully he can get it right in the remaining stages

Oh and what's the point of blocking people when they're just going to get quoted anyway. No escape and its the first race of the year

I remind you of tour of poland 2009. ;)

Scenario ; Tour of poland having a grand ol' time minding it's own business. Some of us enjoying the race. Discussing the race.. But Then...
.

You are right. TDP is awesome.;)

What i've seen from the video the spectator(s) did nothing wrong.

A rider, I think it was Van Hummel, touched the back wheel of another rider and fell down. Other riders tried to evade the falling rider and went into the dirt on the sides, where the spectators were watching.
One of them, I think it was Roelandts, bumped into one of the spectators, but she (as everyone says it was a woman) was not standing that close to the road at all, she was standing in the middle of the dirt. Well away from the road.
It's an unfortunate accident but not at all caused by spectators.

That being said, it might be better to push the spectators back a little bit further in stages with flat final 10 kilometers. Because the speeds get very high and the riders need some room to evade the inevitable crashes.

and still there's no information about Haussler, i'm getting inclined to suspect he is OK and information about him being injured is not quite true

Jurgen Roelandts has broken his 6th cervical vertebra

Any translation to how many weeks of inactivity?

This is pretty much the worst moment possible, two months before the classics and because 2012 should be more or less the year he has to show he deserves a spot as a protected rider at Lotto. Instead of being 'one of the guys' in Greipel's train.

Exactly. Mind you if it was inside 3km there really should be barriers but again they create their own hazard.

Surprise, surprise, a Belgian is first to vent his premature anger.

Don't worry about me, I'm not angry. Greipel won ;) I have no idea why I should be anyway.

I see no tweets from JV or any other Garmin rider, so let's assume he's alright...

Just seen the highlights.

Greipel really did come from way back that was amazing ride from him, chapeau.

About the crash, there looked (in SD on a tv not a youtube vid) like 3 spectators in the way of the aftermath of the crash. One scampered away but two spectators stayed where they were and we know what happened to the lady but there was a child in a wilde-brim hat next to her that managed to get out of that still standing.

EDIT: Ah seen another replay, Garmin rider who went into the car took out the ladie's legs with the back of his bike. Ouch.

Have you guys seen the rider who is behind the 2nd Vacansoleil rider? He does some serious dodging. Impressive he stayed on his bike! No idea who it is...
Looks a bit like Greipel, pretty hard to see with that quality though.

Fantastic, how he missed those spectators!
Clearly, these shot explains the "hit a woman" allegation.
Pity her and her young daughter, caught up in the middle of such a pile up.
Hope they are both OK, but somehow I doubt they escaped unscathed.
