He was 10th in the stage Sagan won... Greipel is pretty good in the hills, when on top form.

i know, but i was inclined to expect a different outcome...
i thought the climbs are harder so we won't see sprinters in the end...

If you look at the profile todays stage was in fact relatively benign, the highest point was a sprinting point unless im mistaken!!

Whilst waiting the 2 hours for the results, I shall make a quick dash to the off licence to stock up on supplies.

300 km is a different proposition than the Tour of Oman.

Especially since the current course isn't unfortunately anywhere near as much of a sprinters' race anymore, what with the shorter finishing flat and the extra climb.

Yesterday's Tour of Oman stage on Eurosport Asia later tonight. I'll see Kittel's victory in full.

Was going to say the same thing. I guess the ticker was wrong and that group never got back on.

Nibbles lost 15secs as well.

Greipel has great determination. In 2010 during the Eneco Tour he was working for Tony Martin during an hilly stage probably just like this one. He was pulling hard at the front of the bunch. Then there was a hill where he got dropped after pulling for 10k.
He managed to get back and win the bunch sprint.

Cav and Goss having a wee chat back in the 90s.

Greipel has been looking like a beast for the last month, and MSR is yet another month away. Cav and Goss both know how to win it and I'm sure that didn't include busting your *** for a couple of months already?

Nibali trying to out-Schleck Schleck.

There was an update about him riding on the front, maybe they're not playing the Nibali card in this race after all?

Did you follow Goss last year? He was all over the place in Jan and Feb.

I loved that stage. He did great work for Gilbert at San Remo as well, will be interesting to see what he can do with a free rein.

95. GOSS Matthew Harley 41 GREENEDGE CYCLING TEAM 3h 41' 38" + 04' 36"

Buddies finishing together again.

Greipel takes another impressive win though if you consider that only 48 riders managed to finish in the first group.

It does seem that cav was blocked.

He wasn't, he quit...it was obvious.

There are other racers who can race....he will not win every race...he's not so much better than everyone else.

Nibali worked for Sagan again. Doesn't seem like he cares about the GC then. Liqui might try to go for Sagan on Green Mountain too

They just might. Sagan said in an interview earlier this week that he was going to try for the overall even though he doubted he could get it. I don't see him winning on Green Mountain though, unless he's seriously increased his climbing ability over the winter. Given his age, this is a possibility, but given his speed in the sprints, it's even less likely...
