But what would he think if the girl grabbed by Sagan was his daughter or sister?

This.

And btw it's not a feminism issue. In Qatar and Oman they have neither feminism nor podium girls.

It's just common decency not to grope women.

I'm not a female no. I'm not gonna pretend I would make that joke myself though, I am only an internet warrior ;) But I don't see the big deal, no. Not when it is open and in public.

Simply shows the difference between what men consider acceptable behavior and what women do. As much as men glorify the female form that doesn't mean they are entitled to touch unless invited to.....

I was a Peter fan, I think he will be a great bike rider. But between the tee shirt and the grab I now think he is a pretty scummy dude with no respect for the opposite sex :(

Yes, ingrained sexism of a job is of course the same as inviting people to harass you.

Once again, with your avatar you should know better.

Once again, what the **** does Carlton Kirby - ES backup sports commentator and the man in the avatar, got to do with a discussion on sexism?

Silly attempt to get this thread back to topic - Sagan to Slovak media after the race:

"I'm very happy for the second place. Fabian rode really well and today I was just not good enough for him. He attacked on the last climb, I tried to hold on to him but he was faster. I'm glad that the main group didn't catch up with us after that. Today the best rider won. I had a mild fall on the 130th kilometre but luckily nothing serious happened to me or the bike. I'm very sorry for Boonen's injury. It can happen to anyone, like with Cancellara last year. The entire race had a fast pace, in these Belgian classics you have to stay at the front and be cautious at all times. Now I will have a little rest, I will miss the Paris-Roubaix classic as you need longer regeneration after it and I will focus on Amstel."

He had also made another bet with Cannondale before the race:

"We made a bet that if I win, they would let me go to Roubaix next week. If not, I will rest until Amstel"

My personal opinion is that the joke of Sagan was just that, a joke, and does nothing to diminish or elevate the status of females in society. In fact, being lighthearted about it as he was is in my view probably better than to deny the existence of real sexual behavior like this, which apparently is the honorable thing to do. With this sentence with Airstream copyright, I just want to say that I cannot understand that porn is legal, prostitution is legal and noone gives a **** and when Sagan makes a joke, he is crucified for it. The level of hypocrisy on this subject is, to me, more disturbing than the action of Sagan.

Give the guy a break already. He's a champion on the bike and total showboat on and off the bike, the viewers want to see a show, he never fails to deliver.

Classless? Maybe.
Anyway, considering what a political figure like the past Italian prime minister Berlusconi has said and done in the last years, all this trash talk on a 23 years old, filled with testosterone to the rim really is ridiculous.

Moreover, I bet most of you talking trash about Peter now never considered even watching some of Marianne Vos incredible wins. Call that sexism.

So really. Shut up morons, and enjoy this wonderful show!

Wait a minute, I'm all for equality and all but!

* Do these podium girls have a code of ethics? As in to not date any rider, race organization promoter (job giver)?

* Do these podium girls have an actual resume, that doesn't involve glamor photos?

* Do these podium girls know anything about the race, race history, race course?

No.

To add to that, don't you find it rather odd the podium girl just froze there while he pinched her ****? If she was truly offended offended don't you think she would of reacted in maybe a million different ways to stop it? Most likely this scene was talked/agreed about ahead of time (unless there's news on that now that I have not read). Remember the job is Podium Girl, where's the job description in detail

Well, people get mad, and the boy just couldn't hold on Fabian's a$$ on Paterberg, so he grabbed the nearest one... and only to pass a message "no long kisses for the motorpacer"

Well I'm done with the subject. No man can understand the fight a woman faces to be taken seriously. All the defense of his actions simply proves my point, it's okay to treat a woman shabbily :(

Back to racing....

I'm still not sold on the new course with the circuits at the end. Seems like the prevailing strategy is to ride conservatively and to wait until the last circuit to make a move for the win.

With the old course it seemed like the action started further out from the finish where the race would split into several small groups chasing each other. With the new course you have a relatively large field still together right up to the last circuit.

I'd take you a lot more seriously if you didn't keep trying to insist you speak for all women, whilst similarly speaking of men as some homogenous block of evil oppression.

I'm with you on this. I've always been keen on Sagan's celebrations and antics but this was something else.

Although in this approach you are not penalized by the law for such behavior, you have every reason to expect to wake up next morning with your nose broken by the girl's boyfriend, husband, or if she does not have any, by her brother or father defending her honor. And you can't whine about it, or expect to be protected by law from it. Would Peter accepted such an outcome?

And this is wrong at, at least, two levels. The first is to response to a somebody's stupid behaviour by violence, and the other is patronizing. You really think girls cannot react themselves if they want to and need some male to protect their honour? By breaking somebody's nose, no less.

Far from it.

Sagan deserves to be criticised for being a childish ***, but I keep reading things like "If some dude pinched a woman's **** in an office environment that would be terms of sexual harassment, But it's ok for Sagan to do it because he's a famous cyclist.". Except this did not take place in an office environment. A woman in an office works filing documents, a podium girl works dressing fancily, smiling, posing and kissing a guy's cheek for the camera.

That doesn't make what Sagan did appropiate, but it doesn't make it comparable to an office worker grabbing his female co-worker's buttocks in the coffee room.

Now, we can then talk about the anachronism that is having podium girls in this day and age. I'm all for getting rid of it altogether.

A podium lady is in effect in professional paid employment, and therefore regardless of being in an office environment, if groped this constitutes sexual harassment in a work place, so don't quite get your having to be in an office? Very odd old fashioned view point here.

The race was good though, yes specially the end bit...oh actually I didn't watch it I was just saying this so that Hero2 don't delete me.

Oh no, Sagan touched the eye-candy. :D

I am female and think Sagan’s behavior was sexist and wrong. But so is the tradition of the podium girls. I find the whole thing funny.
