Thinking about it maybe 15 riders would be better. Remember we aren't picking riders for a single race but rather for the entire classics season and are looking for a good blend of races and variety between the teams.

3000/15

@EvansIsTheBest: Paris-Camembert? Really???

Hugo would the best option would be to start two polls? One for which races should be included (though it will ultimately be your decision) and another on team size/budget.

It's not so much the amount of work - it doesn't take that long. It's more that I don't want to take too much away from the main game. This game should just be a small niche game, which is why I don't think too many races should be included.

Because it is a niche game we could also use the CQ game teams, I think that most of the teams have about 10-12 riders who will participate in those races, and make a classification at the end of April to judge who had the best spring classics team.

But the fun part of CQ is building your team. Looking up riders, scouring CQ for the best picks, forming a strong team within the points limit, etc. If we just use our current teams then there's no fun in it.

And the winner will come from a team which has both Gilbert & Cancellara .

Not necessarily, if the points are lowered like EvansIsTheBest suggests, than you would only be able to include one of them (and you wouldn't have much points left to afford some of the other big name classic contenders like Pozzato or Vanmarcke).

Plus a lot of the classics are cobbled, and the cobbles (as well as many of the classics that aren't cobbled) are unpredictable; there's always the chance that Cancellara and Gilbert could crash out of the entire spring classic season, like Cance did at Flanders.

I meant if the Main CQ game teams are taken.

Why not Paris-Camembert. It is one of the biggest one-day races in France, which suits breakaway/sprinters bringing more variety to the calendar and besides I can't really see which race I did not included is more worthy of joining the calendar.

The only thing I want to avoid is a too big bias towards cobbestones which is I feel is present in the current 15 races calendar and would decrease the interest of the game. IMO to prevent this, only WT races (MSR, GW, GP E3, RVV, P-R, AGR, FW, LBL = 8 races) or extended calendar (around 20 races) are the only options.

When evaluating prestige one of the factors i consider is recent winners.

The only thing I want to avoid is a too big bias towards cobbestones.

This is the Classics mini game you know :D. The problem is that the cobbled riders have a larger and more uniform/predictable campaign whereas riders suited to the hilly classics have fewer opportunities and more divergent campaigns before the Ardennes.

I still think that 15 riders is a good number; variety between teams (as well as divergent strategies), able to have riders in most/all of the featured races and this is the number of riders which most team will use as their core throughout the cobbled and hilly classics.

What's the deal with this game? Is it going to happen or not?
And if so, what's the points limit? Which races?

Alright, here's the deal. I decided to expand the calendar a bit - EvansIsTheBest convinced me, although I haven't used his exact calendar.

The game consists of 19 races and as the calendar was expanded, I thought it would be more fun the expand the teams a bit as well, so I've decided on 12 riders and a total of 3000 points.

The points used are the rider's value as per December 31 2012 - that is, their value from last season when you click a rider. To make things easier, I've created a "Create your team" file, in which you can type in the name of the riders and their value will automatically show up. Simply copy/paste the list of riders and send your team to me - if you're unsure how, please read the opening post of this thread: this thread. The "Create your team" file can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?mfu68oafo3lvrz3

The deadline for submitting your team is February 20, 23:59 CET.

23.02.2013: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad - 1.HC

I would have preferred 15 riders but everything else looks spot on; should be good fun.

Anyone else wondering how many riders from their main cq team to include?
