Best placed rider in the break is points leader Meersman who is 38th at 23.19. Sky will be happy.

Astana and Blanco looks ready for some action today.

But will Sky just let the break go all the way?

moreno could set off some fireworks too, not sure why markets think j rod is better chance when moreno has looked stronger.

I think so,the break is not dangerous at all for GC.Maybe other teams can do something.

I thought this was interesting too, although JRod did look pretty good yesterday. I wouldn't read anything into the fact that he dropped time in the last km, once his attack was reeled in he plainly backed right off and cruised to the line.

Although the break isn't exactly full of strong climbers it could well succeed almost by default.

If Sky choose to just ride defensively, and why wouldn't they, who will chase? Ordinarily I would've said Katusha, but they're down to just five riders, two of whom won't drive the peloton (Moreno and JRod) and one who is in the break.

Maybe I've being overly pessimistic, but this could become pretty dull pretty quickly.

Saxo are chasing, presumably to set Contador up for the stage win. Gap to the break is only 3.25 after 50km.

Gap only 3:25 with 99km to go.

Looks like some teams in the peloton means business. we shall see.

edit: redundant

How technical is the Col de Vars descent?
The first part is easy. The final third of the descent is more tricky. (after a quick glance at google maps...)

Saxo Bank are leading the bunch.

Contador must be feeling good then. With this rain, allergies won't be a problem. Would be awesome if he attacks already on Col de Vars.
