Other than Hampsten's win in '88, how many other editions of the Giro have been so affected by such unseasonably cold and snowy weather? Maybe it would be better if the Giro and Vuelta switched as Spain might be a little warmer than Northern Italy in May? What's it like in the Spanish Pyrenees and Spanish Sierra Nevada right now?

Navacerrada recorded maximum temperatures of -5 C a few days ago. Just a bit warmer than what you get on Stelvio now, but only because of the 900m difference in altitude.
