Who was it who said nobody would pick Wiggins and not many would select Nibali?

An all or nothing strategy could have involved selecting Henao (or Uran) in the hope that Wiggins crashes/fails. Also thought that someone might have chosen Cav (together with Nibali would have left 524 for other riders).

Sandy Casar is a great pick Armchair, will almost definitely get in a break that leads to both decent stage, and a few, GC points. He would have been a certainty on my team if hadnt gone all in with Wiggins and Hesjedal (im the only one to do that right? Edit me and bicycle boy).

As I looked at other teams coming in during the week, I found myself more and more questioning the wisdom of that pick. Nice to see a vote of confidence in my unique pick.

Based on the popularity stats, I'm screwed as I have some of the most common riders ... and I thought I was creative with JEANNESSON and TROFIMOV :)

I didnt even expect KISERLOVSKI to be the No1 pick.

Game over for me ...

I think one of the players with Nibali and Betancur might win, maybe Afrank.

You know...I think you just might be right about that. :D

Just imagine the points I'll get if Nibs and Betancur can go 1-2 in GC. Then all I'll need is Majka to top 10, Gatto to take a couple stages, some high placings or wins for the other guys in stages, maybe Garzelli for the mountain jersey; and I've got this thing all wrapped up. :D

Yeah those 2 are likely to pick up good points on stages as well as GC IMO. The other guys have good scoring potential also, although there may be a few too many chiefs on Gatto's team.

I think Nibali-Hesjedal is a better duo than Nibali-Betancur. I was gonna pick Betancur for stage points in medium mountain stages + decent chance of GC points.

But then I remembered I could pick a serious contender ftw for only 100 points more ;)

After stage 2

Far too early to mean anything, but at least we are all off the mark.

By virtue of picking the entire Astana team, Geraint gets far more scorers than anyone else today.

Casar will do all three grand tours this year, I think he will focus on breakways, not much to expect for gc. But still, maybe he can somehow manage to win a stage, yes

I'm not saying he's gonna get top 10 in GC but he scored 54 poiints for 25th last year after gaining 3 mins on the field in the stage when he came in second to Lars Bak.

yeah, sure, but he wasn't exactly cheap, I think his teammate Jeannesson has more potential, and he was less expansive

And I have him too.

But if my 3rd highest scorer gets the 94 points that Casar got in the Giro last year, then that is better than the third highest scorer of the team that came second in the Vuelta game last year, and the average Giro score last year of riders whose cost in the game then was 229+/-20 points was 26.7, so 94 would be a good return from someone in that point range.

Only three people who cost less than 229 got more than 94 points last year.

If.

Jeannesson may easily end up being a good pick but your spelling mistake may have a freudian element to it, as I reckon he is likely to be less expansive and just try to limit his loses on the mountain stages.

my guess

AJ - 0-10 points from stages & secondary classifications
SC - 30-100
AJ - 30-100 points from GC
SC - 30-100

(check their respective points scoring from tdf 2010)

As for expense - we both have Wiggins on our teams.

hehe, yep, that's true, it does have a freudian element ;)

Casar is relaible as you can be very sure that he will manage to pick the right breakaway group one or two times, that's true. I just wanted to add that he might end up way further down in gc than last year with two more grand tours in mind. His score in 2012 was also influenced by fighting for pink for a couple of stages, and therefor losing less time in gc.

But anyway, as Armchair cyclist indicated, he may still be a good pick, and it's also true that Jeannesson is limited, indeed.

I'm not quite sure how this works, but shouldn't Giampaolo Caruso got me some points for his 6th place today?

Because I was on 46 after yesterday's stage. I had Ryder(25)+Sanchez(10)+Caruso(7)=42 today. I'm pretty sure anyway

Stupid race organisers, allowing two men with the same surname to take part in the same race.

7 points for Whittashau and Lupetto: 7 points off Karaev, Manafana, Vladimir and EvansistheBest.

Table now corrected (I hope)

I deleted the PMs with teams on them as I entered them to avoid any risk of a full inbox: perhaps those who chose either Caruso would send me a copy of their original entry to confirm which one they chose (I suspect the Cannondale one was more in my mind, because I had edited the rider list to bring him in in place of Basso)

I can tell from the prices that Karaev and EvansisTheBest must have gone for Damiano, as they would have been overbudget with Giampaolo.

Apologies to Vladimir and Manafana: both of whom I had allocated Damiano rather than Giampaolo. I'll make some adjustments this evening.
