If garzeli wants a stage win its stupid to go after this, the 1 stage where the favourites are guaranteed to go all out, rather than 1 where he can go just as hard but the competition may not be bothered.

This isn't that steep and he is even older. The only weapon he can have is that he might pace himself better. Against Evans and Nibali, really?

Hitch is correct.

Garzelli's best bet is resting today, and either go for tomorrow (if the climbs are still in), or go after Saturday's stage.

Kessiakoff and Kangert will be told to go for it as they can get one through those two riders with Nibali of course. The others will rest up.

They could be thinking about the team classification too a little... Not that they care much about that but it's still up for the taking

I think Nibali is too strong. May or may not win but surely will not lose any time to Evans / Uran. Had Wiggins actually done well this Giro - this would have been a much more interesting stage.

On the other hand to think of it - when will Evans actually attack? Stage 20? Possibly leaving it too late or he knows he simply cant match Nibali this Giro and wants to finish second here and try to win the Tour.

plus movistar who should have 3 riders high up, the team classment has decent prize money so most teams doing well in it will have 3 riders go hard. And kessiakoff or kangert will have to do it hard anyway, as Nibali will want use their data to help with his tt.

Anyone finding 22nd rider in GC so far to be quite a surprise? : O

Wonder how he'll do today, he's been pretty consistent so far.

Somewhat, doing CX might have helped him in these conditions.

FDJ mentioned before the race that he went for the GC, looking for a possible top20 I think.

at age 32, being pro for 9 years I think this season will easily be his best.

What was the plan with Jeannesson originally, top 10?

Kessiakoff won't go full gas:

"Fredrik Kessiakoff ‏@FredrikKess 2m
Will not do todays TT at full speed. 2 days of antibiotics & bad sleep have taken its toll. Still have 3 days of defending the jersey after."

Yeah. What about the Blanco team. They have some pretty decent time-trialers and do need a victory. Maybe Keldermann and Clement are good picks for top 5.
