Blanco are hedging their bets. Gesink and Kruijswijk will start on an aero road bike, Kelderman will ride a TT bike.

hmm for a 55km itt like this i'd chose a full TT bike any time. Hope they aren't ruining things here
Then again, you could make a big difference in that last little climb with a lighter bike. 20/30 seconds even

Welp. I made it through today's brutality! Looking forward to the TT, not entirely sure what to expect but I will give it my all regardless!

Thanks:) :)

If road bikes are better, why the f*ck Kelderman is using a TT bike

or I think Gesink is too afraid to take corners with a TT bike :D

It's not a regular road bike. It's the Propel, somewhere in the middle between a TT bike and a road bike. The advantage is that it's lighter, Giant's TT bikes are notoriously heavy.

Yeah, there are some real power parts in this TT where you could really use a TT bike.

It's not a road bike. The propel is some sort of intermediate bike. It's way more aerodynamic then a road bike, but not a full itt bike, lot lighter.

Like theyoungest just said.

TT bike with low profile rims and road bike with high profile rims. I miss the other two combinations :D

What's the best liveticker for this TT? I would like to see a ticker with the intermediate times. I know letour.fr always has a good ticker for time trials, but this isn't le Tour of course. :D

Only 2 time checks, one of them very close to the finish
I like the last time check. It's just before the last ramp. But yeah, a third time check would be a lot better.

yeah that's typical italian. Anyway if it doesn't rain wiggins will get his advantage back. The rest of the contenders are going to finish pretty close to eachother, but far from wiggins.

If it rains however... massacre

smart setup in my opinion. It isn't a road bike + clip ons. They actually built these up with a proper TT handlebar. This could work out very well for them. The steep seat tube on a dedicated TT bike makes it really crappy in technical sections AND climbing. Especially for someone who isn't as comfortable in the technical sections going with a really aero road bike built up with dedicated TT components should be > dedicated TT bike with steep seat tube.

To be honest all/most of the corners in the first part are mostly gentle.

The most technical corner I could find:

I am surprised that Gesink is not on the full TT bike. Is there information on what the other GC riders choose as a setup for today?

I expect a good Wiggins but not superb. So I voted for a 1 - 1.30 time difference.

I hope to see a strong Clement, Kelderman and Hesjedal. I do not expect Nibali to be improved significantly compared to previous years. Gesink around place 15, because every time when I think he can do better, he fails.

One of their riders had the same set-up (aero road-bike with tt bars) in the ttt.
