Pretty funny how, for two years in a row one of the two big favourites crashed the week before and can't race Roubaix, leaving the other guy with very thin competition..

I am cancelling my Pippo Pozzato Fan Club membership if he doesn't appear in the top10 riders at any stage of today's race.

I think Thor will be on great form. Remember when he won world's he said his 1 remaining dream was to win Pr. He showed good form in tirreno and been playing possum since then. remember 2011 he wasn't all that before roubaix either.

I'm with you

He'll podium today

If Hayman is forced to work for EBH this year I'm going to be fuming. I have an each way bet on him at 150/1 odds. Great value I think!

According to the Eurosport commentators, Sean Yates stated that EBH can't win Roubaix. Yates reckoned he hasn't got what it takes, Said he will maybe top 10 or 20 but never win. Hayman seems more suited I agree.

Phinney.

If he can hold cancellera's wheel he can beat him in a sprint.

It would be great if the race was decided by a sprint or an attack in the last kilometre. I don't really want to see another > 50 km cobbled TT. (Unless it's in the rain - that would be epic!)

I think it'll be the other way around. "Oh look, only Fabian can follow the brutal attack of the big green guy, Turgot... Wait... No... It's not Turgot... It's Gaudin! The race is over!"

Don't think he will have to work for EBH. From article on front page:

In contrast to RadioShack-Leopard, which is built wholly around Cancellara, the Sky team has a more fluid chain of command. Thomas, Ian Stannard and Edvald Boasson Hagen may be the nominal leaders, but Bernhard Eisel and Mat Hayman also have more than a degree of freedom.

“I think the five of us have got a free hand to get stuck in really – Hayman and Bernie as well,” Thomas said.

If last weekend was anything to go by they could be 45kmh for the first few hours so may even be a bit earlier. I think I'm going to play it safe

Wouldn't be so fast to discount Hushovd just yet. His performance at Tirreno stage 6 impressed me a lot, and made me promise myself not to discount him for today.

Arvesen said the same thing to procycling.no. The five of them get the freedom to earn team leadership. Multiple attacks certainly sounds like the only way they can possibly beat Cancellara.

2002 and 2001 were the last wet editions of Roubaix. Far, far too long ago :(

Pretty good point by Pozzato:

Filippo Pozzato:

Boonen’s absence doesn’t change anything for me but it changes things for Cancellara because it means that he bears most of the responsibility for the race. It’s changed a lot for him because QuickStep would have taken hold of the race along with Cancellara but now it’s all falling onto Cancellara’s shoulders.

Having a (not on top form) Boonen there could have actually made things more managable for Cancellara.

Edit: Re: Sky

I think Thomas is the only Sky rider with a decent chance of reaching the podium. 4th in both Omloop and Harelbeke, bad luck in Ronde otherwise I'm confident he would have gotten a top 10 place. Hope he tries to get in a smal break with 40-60k to go.

Oss and GVA have had great shape so far this season, but of course PR doesn't suit them as much as it does for Phinney and Hushovd. However, if they perform it'll come out of nowhere, because they both haven't finished a race in two weeks as shown above.
I agree with this.

Oss at the very least seems to think Paris-Roubaix is his race for the taking and I would be disappointed if he does not get at least some level of freedom, especially over Hushovd.
