lol, and the first stage on the biggest scene is probably the slowest race he has ever done.
I'm glad Vacansoleil is folding. They're so cautious and good developing their talents

Flecha attacks the break. Boom follows.

Edit: Boom takes the points.

Edit 2. Greipel, Sagan, Cav (from the peloton)

Why would he care about the sprint points?
How much are they worth compared to the finish? I guess since the winner of the stage will wear the yellow and probably hold the green. So second in green would wear the jersey the next day.

Not enough for that for sure. Green jersey will be worn by second place of the day.

Cav just doing enough to pip Sagan, sensible.

As soon as he started sprinting I said he's not trying 100%, just doing enough to pip Sagan, although Sagan came back at him a little and may have got it.

Then I can only think they are hoping to get in the break for a few days in a row. Mop up the points and hope to grab the green for a few days.

Who gets to wear the KOM jersey if there are no points awarded on this stage?

There was a mountain sprint earlier in the stage, so that jersey will be given out. They always put one in the first stage. If there is no suitable hill, they just pick a bridge or something.

There's a climb at 45.5 km, Côte de Sotta a 1.1 km climb of 5.9%. Whoever is first over gets KOM.
