thank you frosty for the update in a single post.

WTF is happening here? this looks more like a battle of attrition by climate than anything else.

arroyo, nieve, henao in the break is a good sign. i hope for someone to break into top-10 from way back today.

Probably a mixture of genuine illness and people wanting to play it safe given the WC is round the corner.

has this becoming a recurring feature of this peloton? do they truly believe that they can catch the break? are they even interested in catching the break?

sometimes the robot train looks less frustrating than a normal peloton. but with only 2 teams not represented, this looks like another stage winner from the break.

Edet i think is all set to claim the climbers jersey today. anyways, the KOM guy has quit the race.

Ratto hasn't abandoned.

Edet had 13 points before the stage started and took 10 points on the first climb (and perhaps on the second one too, but we haven't seen the results from that one yet..).

i am betting that edet will take the mountains jersey. there is a total of 40 pts max on offer.

he can easily take a conservative 22 points (1 win and 2 seconds) and that is enough for him to take the lead. I think that he may want to go for 2 wins, a second and work for anyone else who can guarantee him KOM points.

Cataldo and Popo have been caught by the peloton.

EDIT: and Bling too.

wtf was popo thinking going in the break? he could have assisted in the peloton better. or is this a plan A failing, and moving on to plan B?

It's about covering the break so the team won't have to chase. Most likely a couple of the riders on the team were told to be in today's early breakaway.

Puerto de la Bonaigua (1ª):

1º Nicolas Edet (84)
2º Andre Cardoso (63)
3º Mikael Cherel (15)
4º Warren Barguil (22)
5º Alexandre Geniez (104)

Edet is now leading the KOM competition with 33 points. (Ratto has 30 points)

popo has a big heart. i was just unsure why he was sent up. probably they could have sent someone else up, and used popo as the initial engine for the eventual RLT assault.

who is the consensus winner today?

looks like edet has already taken the 20 pts that i said he would. now he would try to come in top-3 of the next climb. (sorry abt my previous comment abt KOM winner abandoning. I had failed to update name in my KOM list yesterday. my list had gilbert with 20 pts)
