No, you are right as well. Bettini went in as defending champion but in the final selection it was Cunego and Rebellin everyone was looking at that allowed Ballan to go.

Thx, I read it in the RIDE preview of the 2010 WC, so i was unawares as to whether they were wrong or they were right (conclusion- they mainly talked about Cunego/ said something about Zabel and Bettini rolling in together).

Most likely none of the big guns will win.

My candidates for victory: Jan Bakelandts, Warren Barguil or Chris Anker Sörensen

So you're saying he's in the team because he can climb?

Cavendish is in the team because of his prominence and because he can probably be a useful bottle carrier on the first 100km.
Him winning this race would easily be one of the most shocking surprises of the last decade. Have you looked at the route previews on youtube?

It would be amusing if he got into a breakaway though.

Decided to put £20 on Cav @ 500/1 (each way, just to be on the safe side) I hope it's money well spent.

Considering Brunyeelsfords immense ignorance on the subject of cycling tactics he might get the team to just do 300k on the front again.

In which case, the first 100 is flat compared to the Fiesole circuit. Cav could be a great workhorse for those first 100k, making sure the likes of Nebojsa Jovanovic, Yusuke Hatanaka, Rein Taramei, etc don't get more than a 2 minute lead on the peloton.

I've been rooting him for so long but your post made me really sad :(

Well, according to Bet365 Cav has more chances of winning than the likes of Pinot, Spilak and the same as TJVG.
That's ridiculous.
Bookies should offer odds on laps in Cav's case.
I say 2 - 4 laps he'll be able to withstand.

Anyone else think Betancur can do something on this course? He had a long break between Giro and Vuelta and was sick before the start but made it to the finish with out ever looking like he was pushing. The course suits him as he showed he can climb and sprint with the best of them with 5th at the Giro with 3rd and 4th at La Fleche and Liege B L. Has Colombia said who they are gunning for?

Quintana will be there leader. I doubt Betancur will do anything, he was completely invisible the whole Vuelta. Usually a rider coming from the Vuelta that is targeting worlds will do something in the Vuelta to help them build form, but he did nothing. It's sad, cause the course is one that he could do well on. But he hasn't demonstrated that he has the form (I'd be happy if he did end up doing something though).

Nebojsa Jovanovic is not participating, only Serbian representative will be Ivan Stevic.

P.S. How on Earth do you know Nebojsa Jovanovic? I bet there's less than 1000 people here who would know who he is.

Uran should get the status of co-leader.

Cav has absolutely zero chance of winning. Bet 365 are just taking candy off babies in the wake of the Cav parade/borefest yesterday. For a bit of realism try hardcore classics men like J Rod, Valverde, Horner, Nibali, Quintana or even Gilbert, Froome, Betancur. Even Martin if he can rediscover LBL form.

I'm sorry u can't dream big, I'm sorry u don't believe in miracles :p

Haha in cycling everything is possible, even 41 year old's can win GT's now.

It's very unlikely though :D
