What on earth was that idiot with the barrier doing there? Could have wiped someone out as he had lifted it head hight into the riders path, common sense obviously not a big part of the event security description !

It's a bit unfair when Cav has four of the best sprinters in the race as part of his leadout team. Any of them could have won that stage with that leadout.

Add Tommeke and Der Panzerwagon at the tour and he's nearly invincible.

Perhaps in a race like this you could call if unfair. But they are getting their train ready for the TdF, and there things will not be unfair. :) They will need all the man power they can get to compete with Giant and Loto.

Looks like Richeze might be getting back into last years form, so I think it's time to start keeping score between him and Colbrelli in the battle for most top 5's without a win.

Colbrelli 12 - 2 Richeze

Last year it was 8 - 19, so Richeze is just ahead on aggregate.

Rojas wants to play as well.

Yeah, sure. Giant, AKA the best sprint train in the world, says hello.

Giant have had the best train in practice for more than a year. OPQS however have a significantly better one in terms of their theoretical resources if they can actually get everyone as well drilled as Giant.

They haven't yet managed to do so, this season. Unless there's no competition, like today.

Even in the first stage Belkin had a stronger train. The team famous for its failing sprint train.

The process of getting everyone well drilled involves making errors at the sh*t small races. You don't just decide that you want to be well drilled and then suddenly you are.

Renshaw will make all the difference - last season Cav couldn't find a last man with half a cycling brain - this time if it all starts to go tits up he has someone with the sense to lay off and ride someone else's train until the last 500m - for the last 2 seasons Cav was doing that on his own regularly which is not nearly as effective as having someone who can kick at 450m to go and pull you near the front.

They did it regularly at HTC and it's actually more effective than being in control if it works well, because you hit the front with a speed differential - that relies on your lead-out man being able to out-pace the opposition, and whilst Renshaw didn't set the world alight as a sprinter in his own right, he's a couple of bike lengths quicker than most lead-out men.

Unless somebody or a team steps up, the next stage could also be a Cav show:

I like the profile as a flat stage variant, but we need a serious break here. More than 100 riders are +5 minutes behind now. More training or racing?

according to Cam Wurf's blog he let his tyres down before the wet descent where everyone crahed on the advice of Adam Hansen!

Bang on! Renshaw wanted to have a go at being the main sprinter after HTC. Think he has abandoned that one now. But as you say, in a lead out role there is no one better.

Yep, probably Cav again, unless Lotto/Greipel finally feels like contesting seriously. That might give us a better competition today.

No chance for break......
