2014 51st GP du canton d'Argovie (1.HC) | 12 June

Anybody know anything about this race? It's been around for half a century and apparently Rui Costa, Fabian Cancellara, and Alexander Kristoff are all going to be there, so it's got that going for it anyway.

15 circuits of a 12.1 km circuit (totalling 181.5 km), through town, out over the hill, through town, out over the hill, repeat...

Never followed the race before.
But from the race site ( http://www.gippingen.ch/web/ ), it would appear this is a 4 day combination event.

I personally think this is a good model for "classics".

Interestingly, today's article about Tom Boonen's possible Tour de France participation includes a quote from him at the end which seems to indicate that he's going to be in this race. But nothing I've seen--not even the official race website--lists Omega Pharma-Quick-step as being scheduled to send a team.

Startlist just about ready I think.

Some key riders:
1. Orica GreenEDGE (Albasini, Clarke)
2. Trek Factory Racing (Cancellara, van Poppel)
3. Lampre-Merida (Costa, Modolo)
4. AG2R La Mondiale (Appollonio, Mondory)
5. Astana Pro Team (Iglinskiy, Tleubayev)
6. Team Katusha (Kristoff, Chernetckii)
7. BMC Racing Team (Gilbert, Evans)
8. Garmin Sharp (Slagter, Dennis)
9. Team Giant-Shimano (Mezgec, Geschke)
10. IAM Cycling (Elmiger, Fumeaux)
11. Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela (Zilioli, Parrinello)
12. Team NetApp – Endura (Bennett, Dempster)
13. MTN - Qhubeka (Ciolek, Meintjes)
14. Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise (Jacobs, Van Hecke)
15. Wanty - Groupe Gobert (Baugnies, Seeldraeyers)
16. Team Colombia (Duarte, Romero)
17. Switzerland (Zahner, Saggiorato)

This is an interesting field. Those poor Team Switzerland kids are going to get eaten alive I guess, but they're probably just happy to be there.

I suppose it would be foolish to bet against Albasini given his history here, but you have to figure who else, Kristoff and Gilbert maybe, will figure in the finish?

That said, my tip for the winner is Tom-Jelte Slagter. He hasn't raced since his impressive performances in the Ardennes Classics, though, is there some critical news item about him I've overlooked?

Going with Chernetckii.
Inspired by Trofimov.

I wonder about the spelling of that guy's name. Procyclingstats.com gives it as you have (and spell his first name Sergei), whereas cqranking.com and Wikipedia have him as Sergey Chernetskiy. I guess the different sources use different methods of anglicizing Russian names.

Dunno myself, but there are solid lingo guys on this forum who might know.
