He's about to score the biggest victory of his career, arguably the biggest victory of a cyclist from his country ever; why the **** would he jeopardise that with a long range attack now, especially when there's still a reasonable chance for the break to collapse and him winning from 3k out?
This has nothing to do with a long range attack...

The Zoncolan is a monster. And it's the 20th day of racing. 6 minutes isn't that much. The peloton can take 1 min/km.

If the break is insanely lucky, someone will podium from that group. But, it's likely the day's podium will be from the GC group.

The winner of the stage, who's obviously one of the breakaway guys, will win with at least 2 minutes to the GC guys.

Doubt it. Pellizotti won't lose 8 minutes on a 10km climb. Even when that climb is the Zoncolan.

The lack of fight between any of the GC candidates really is anti-climatic way to finish this race.

You can't expect GC riders to attack 40K+ out. The Zoncolan is a monster and the riders are on their 20th stage.

A top-10 in a grand tour is a major win.

DirtyWorks's naiveness is endearing in a way

Yes, it's day 20. That's bad for the GC guys who have to expend energy every day. Most of the ones in the break had several days of soft pedalling to save themselves for a break. And several of them are very good climbers.

No one expects them to attack, but to chase the break so they can win the stage.

Ok, well too bad. Invisible the entire year so far.

Thats true, but there are some solid climbers in the front group so definitely no chance for peloton.
EDIT: lol @ movistar :)

Ok, valid point. IMHO, the GC group will explode and we might see some riders fall out of the top-10. So, at least two races on the Zoncolan.
