2014 Giro d'Italia Stage 5: Taranto – Viggiano (203km)

I have a feeling Hesjedal will try something on the penultimate climb and on the following descent. On the final climb Purito will test his legs for sure. I expect EBH and Gasparotto to be in the mix as well. Very open stage, still. A lot of guys could do well there.

A 3km dal traguardo volante c'è un vento mostruoso! 3km from the intermediate sprint there is a crazy wind!

we really could use a crosswind stage at this point.
Still even without it, the finale will likely be unpredictable and interesting.

Intresting, crosswinds should be fun,I will have to tune-in in the school:(
First really good stage it seems.

I don't think it seems possible, he won't make it through the climbs

Swift looks like a good call. I'm going with Evans, his form was really good coming into the Giro.

Ulissi is my second option.

Still it will be difficult to get rid of the Swift/EBH two pronged attack machine.

Not sure if any team has the balls to try to create echelons. A quick thought doesn't give me the impression it will happen.

Oh wait, maybe Belkin. They got Tjallingi, van Emden and Flens. Strong guys for a lot of wind.

Belkin just doesn't have anyone to benefit from it, other than Keldermeckx.

Well in Pais Vasco stage 5 he was in the select group of 20 riders that made through all the climbs so I expect him to be there. Not sure if he is able to take the win though. The problem is that the hardest part of the climb is the final km. It's basically a Cauberg (with less steep max gradient) after a long false flat. So Gilbert ftw:p

^talking about Swift

I really like this stage, it's very well designed. The win could go to a break away, sprinters (who can climb), puncheurs and GC guys. I think it'll be a fun stage and crosswinds won't make it any less interesting.

Battaglin for the win!
