According to Bici, Quintana also crashed. Some damage to his right knee.

Nothing serious however (on first sight)

Whst do you expect the TT's between Quintana and Evans to be like when both are complete? Will Quintana cancel out any losses from the first TT in the second TT, do you think?

I think it is too premature to say Quintana looked weak, we can all decide on Saturday where there is no hiding place.

the mountain itt will be the truly deciding stage and it favors the colombians more than anything, especially duarte and quintana who are diesels of less than 55 kg with a huge engine in them, they recuperate very well. I can see quintana take a lot more time there on evans than evans will on quintana in the flatter itt. in fact I doubt evans will take much time if anything ata ll on the flatter itt on quintana. evans itt is overrated and the course is good for quintana who will impress people unless there is a lot of wind

Hope your right but Quintana is overrated in ITT all because of his Pais Vasco(hilly/technical) ITT he was bad in the TDF when people though he would push Froome.

:(

What a terrible day.:( I'm so sad for Purito and Brajkovic. I was really hoping for Purito to win his first GT or at least see an interesting battle with Quintana and other contenders. And now this. Jani also has had terrible luck last couple of seasons. After the 9th place in TdF in 2012 it's basically all crashes and abandons and illness for him. He just can't do a normal race anymore. I still remember the head to head with Contador in 2010 Dauphine and I had big hopes for him but nothing has gone right since then.:(
Hope Caruso and others are ok, too, of course.

If Basso wins this, I'll fall out of my chair.

In that case you will see a lot of retired riders in the pro-peloton racing again next year. :D Think about a podium with both Basso and Evans on it.

Next you'll see an 2015 reunion with Simoni, Iban Mayo, Vinokourov and Carlos Sastre.

I can't see Basso hitting the podium unless more falls decimate the field. Top 10 at best possibly top 7.

I'm hoping it was precautionary as I had fears of paralysis :(

Broken shoulder apparantly, I guess they wanted to relieve pressure on his shoulder.

I think it's really hard to break your back in a cycling crash, due to the way one sits on a bike. I don't know of any case, certainly not in pro cycling, where a rider became paralysed due to a crash.

So 70 years after the Battle of Cassino we get the Montecassino Massacre

Really? Some broken bones and a bit of blood versus tens of thousands of 20-something year old lives lost in another pointless battle and you call the latter a massacre.

Why all the shock at Basso i mean the guy looked good in La Vuelta last year i feel he would have been 5th if he did not abandon. He was only guy working on the stage were Horner beat Nibbles by 48 seconds. And Basso always does good in the Giro really maybe he wont win but it's my dream for him to stand on podium. Maybe im abit of a hypocrite bt ive never disliked Basso infact i have always loved me some Ivan. Wait till his diesel gets going.:D
