Some people don't get the hate for Gerrans. Me, I don't get how anyone can root for him.

But hey, every time Gerrans wins a race like this, there's a chance the better hilly riders will realize they're being ****ing idiots.

Not Gerrans' fault, he took advantage of the race not being selective enough. If Valverde and co had pushed it enough on La Redoute he'd have been shelled. Maybe no-one has the legs to do that any more, who knows why...but cleaner racing is more boring racing.

I never thought the boring racing was Gerrans fault. He is a fitting winner for the amount of action, or lack of, that we had.

Your last point, I would disagree. But this isn't the section to discuss that in.

There you go. They know if he is there at the finish he is usually hard to beat.

I couldn't watch the race due to an inconvenient power outage:mad:
but appears to be that I didn't quite miss anything special:p:D

man- when I read Gerro won- I could easy picture the biggest wheel socking ever up until the last few meters...

I wish my power had gone out during the race. Consider yourself lucky you didn't have to witness that.

Woah. Hey. Woah. Let's not say things we can't take back.

Reichenbach got a Top 10 in 2013 tour of britain, top 20 tour de suisse thats way more for his young age than froome had to show than before he fell into the magic potion pot..

Gerrans!!!
But seriously i think he has a chance.
I think Martin should be top favourite, with Valverde and Gilbert just behind. Kwiatowski could win here but I just don't feel confident that he can win (He'll continue his streak of 3rd places- 5 from PV). Hopefully Nibali makes the race exciting :)
I hope you got good odds, my friend.

OPQS said on twitter, that Kwiatkwski did not win because of damn Dan Martin :D
He didn't win because he's turning into a wheelsucker as well, who waits to use his weapon in the sprint. Can't blame him, the Ardennes are bunch sprints these days. But I hope he realises that he has the talent to do a lot more in the coming years other than waiting for a sprint.

I still don't get the hate for Gerrans. He is not doing anything new but obviously fans have their favourite riders. Gerrans might win ugly but he gets paid to win just like Valverde and others. Levi winning the TDS was not unexpected as Cunego can't time trial but you are right it was very unpopular.

like hrotha, I can't understand why anybody would want to root for Gerrans. Sure, he's paid to win and his way of winning is to win ugly (well, it is nowadays. It wasn't back in his Crédit Agricole and Cervélo days, when he was a reasonably interesting stagehunter), and it's served him well.

But I'm not paid to be a fan. I watch the race to be entertained, and Gerrans hasn't done a single thing to entertain since the 2009 Giro. Why would I want to root for him?

If Costa had not crashed he would have teared the race apart. He seemd to have the legs and he is one of those who cannot rely on the sprint as much as, say, Valverde or Kwia. Though he is not slow either.

Comparing Froome to Obelix is just weird. If only for their respective physique.

Costa tearing a race apart? He's more tactical than Gerrans, if possible.

It's reasonable to wait and sprint with Valverde and Gerrans. Unfortunately he lost the momentum at the last corner..

Still he will win the race one day :)

Tactical doesn't really mean wait for a sprint, does it? I'm not implying he would tear the race from far out, but it isn't insane to think he could attack on St. Nicolas. He has developed a wheelsucker stereotype surrounding him because of his Worlds performance, but that's not how he is.

The most that could be expected from is perhaps a dedicated effort to suck Martin's wheel up the last hill.

That sort of group just isn't one Costa can win from. Neither gambling minded or strong enough to try it Martin's way, nor fast enough to try it Gerrans way.

Being as young as he is I can understand he wants to hang on instead of attacking. I just hope he changes his attitude as he gets more experience otherwise he'll be a good apprentice of the Valverde/Gerrans tactics.
