I don't understand Cav. He has not been able to contest sprints lately. Is he that dependent on his team? Does he not have the will to be up there right now? Is it a long run of bad luck? I dunno...It just doesn't seem like his normal competitive self- unless he simply doesn't have the form right now.

He seems a bit out of shape still, so struggles to get into the right position. In his defence though I think it is partly because the other sprint teams are getting much better, which makes his look worse. However, he seems too petulant and stops sprinting at the slightest of blocks!

Maybe he stops because, to him, it is better not to contest the sprint at all, then to come in with 5th place.

Really cool by Pelucchi. Most time, he struggles with the level of the biggest races and lack of support from his team, but know he fully profited from his speed and the chaotic sprint.

Modolo still shows that winning at the highest level is difficult for him.

You mean: great from Greipel and his team to still make it to the front after 3 of their guys crashed, and a really poor performance by Cav and his team to be nowhere in the final 3 k?

Getting in position is the basics and all the teams can do it most of the time.

Leg speed of the sprinter is the more notable feature.

He's always had a habit of not bothering unless he thinks he's going to win, and its been particularly evident recently. Not that it's necessarily wrong - no value in places really for him.

Cav was caught behind the Kittel crash & managed to avoid going down but was distanced & so had to chase back on then got slightly boxed so sat up, he finished 15th.

from cannondale fb page:

5th place for Peter Sagan in the sprint of 2nd stage - Good performance of the Slovakian champion in a finish suited for pure sprinters. Pity that in the caos of the sprint he had the left level hit and the brake remained slightly blocked

has anybody idea, how big impact it could have made?

maybe that's why the team gave him the blue jersey yesterday instead of giving it to another domestique so he got some consolation price. Luck or no luck, he knows these days his sprinting opportunity is getting harder and harder. :D

The decline is pretty sad. Last year he only won 7 GT stages, one GT points jersey and his most CQ points ever after getting ill the week before his main peak.

At 28 it's a miracle he can still get his leg over the bike anyway, so us fans have to be grateful for the scraps we get.

How hard is tomorrow's stage? I assume it's one for the sprinters, but is it one for the flat guys or the tough course sprinters?

Well, for the most part the route is easy, but we have an uphill finish:

An interesting variant of a flat stage.

During Paris-Nice the channel France 3 has been showing a sort of "public service announcement", where they show images where spectators endangered themselves and/or the riders. Thomas Voeckler is the spokesman, the message is "Be respectful, be careful and watch your kids". It's pretty well done I think, I've been looking for it online to post here, but haven't found it so far

the idiot in the movie knows exactly what he is doing

should be identified and taken to jail

i'm afraid of the moment when something bad will happen on this model

Tough to predict a finish like that. Presumably it's not long/steep enough to allow the puncheurs to beat the sprinters?

If the pace is high all day, maybe somebody can just stay away. However we still have three super sprinters with zero results. Only one more flat stage after this. Anyway, agree hard to call.

I suppose that a good rule of thumb when a finish is trickier than usual, but you don't know how much trickier, is to pick Sagan.
