Every year we get the time gap back to the unimportant guy in yellow permanently on screen but we have no idea where the GC group is

never understand why people hype him

What's not to understand? He finished top 10 in his first Tour last year and 6th on the final mtf, then won the Dauphine this year. No guarantee of future success of course, but it's perfectly logical for people to hype him somewhat. It's not like anyone hyped him for victory, just as a possible top 5 or podium in an absolute best case.

I thought he had a good shot at a top 5 before the Tour started but I expected him to suffer today after all his crashes, so I'm not surprised at all.

Searching that post about VDB having a better chance at the podium over Porte, Valverde and Co. LOL!

I expected more from Kwiatkowski. Disappointing.

Honestly, I didnt. He hasnt shown anything in the mountains this season. Overraced/overtraine. I think some serious change in training is needed. Might try altitude training for a first time in his life. Even for the classics some better climbing would help. I dont want him to turn into Tony Martin (dont get me wrong, he is amazing, I just think that Kwiatkowski can win couple monuments).

Anyway, I still think attacking was good idea. He would end up behind the bunch on this climb anyway and ride tempo. Might as well start doing that with some time advantage. It was all about limiting the losses today and with a rest day tommorow that was the best they could hope for
