One would think Froome's ability to power up hills without leaving the saddle would make him a better bike rider when the rain starts falling and traction gets harder to find. One would think. It has yet to appear this way in reality.

what?! what does it matter if you go uphill on asphalt wether it rains or not on traction. you are going 20 km/h without cornering. I guess you never sat on a bike

Don't think many will feel like racing on Creueta in these conditions. The peloton will probably take it easy. A sort of solidarity ride.

Barring incidents, this will likely end in a sprint to the line imo. Here I see Betancur being the strongest.

Somebody will provide the train today: Sky, Movistar or Tinkoff. Perhaps a multi colored locomotive for most of the day.

I remember some pretty epic pictures on angliru in the rain where they actually fought for traction.... This is no Angliru, so it is a false problem today

This

Will be a sprint between purito and betancur. Would be the perfect set up for Valverde

+2

Don't see anyone wanting to burn their matches in the weather today given there is another MTF tomorrow.

I've only Nibs was here - he'd have a go

None of the very big dogs will want to go, but I can see second tier riders giving it a go, just like in 2012 when the organisers than cancelled the times for the whole stage (an outrage which still schocks me).

It could open the door for an outsider winning it all in the end. If you have a group of decentish climbers / tough guys like a Tommy Voeckler and others going for it. What do you do if you are one of the big favourites ? have your team chase or fold ?

On the steepest part of the climb, Wiggins emerges from the spectators, takes up position in front of Dog (correct spelling) and then drops him whilst fumbling with his earpiece. Kirby goes ballistic.

In the meantime somewhere in a sheet AmneziaPhill gives his all " of course he learned that from Armstrong..."

This photo was just tweeted out from the finish line today. I don't know if the rain will actually come, but if it can hold off perhaps we will get some real racing as opposed to a glorified sprint between the wee men. :p

I also think that there won't be a significant action today.
Even if conditions were/are better, I suspect the big showdown would occur.
Tomorrow should be the day everybody's hoping for.
Today Betancur could capitalize on his form if it's still there.

Alberto will have a go, if the mountains aren't cancelled. Alberto is in this race to play mind games with Froome. :D

(please god, let it be so)
