i didnt mean mountain goat
he is not able climb mountains "very well",he is not even Top10 climbers in the world

So you say "not a climber" of every rider not being a top10 climber in the world? Considering the names you think has a better shot at a GT win, I really can't follow your logic. Pinot, Talansky and Aru, come'on!? Neither one of them is among the best climbers in the world either

All three are great talents, but TJ has so far shown much more consistency than all three. Granted, he has disappointed as well, and he is a diesel lacking some explosivity, but I think your definition of climber is far fetched.

And btw. I'm not hyping TJVG to be the next GT winner, but he has the potential to be a top3 contender considering his skillset. And I also think it's unjustified to label him "not a climber"...

Based on what? His subpar Tour last year? There could be a number of factors that played into his lack of showing. He may not have responded well to the indecisions regarding who was riding for what on BMC.

I'm not saying he's the next Lucho, but it's still too early in his career to right him off as a total GC bust. The kid has a lot of potential. He reminds me of a young Bobby Julich: he may not win the Tour or the Vuelta, but he's got the talent to compete and hang with the best.

His level will be around 6th to 7th in the TDF, which is fine no shame in that the dude has lost his marbles no one wins today if you cant climb well, even the ridicolous TDF parcours wiggo won you still need to climb mountains well.

Exactly TJVG fits the mode far more than people like even Mollema as he is a good ITT'er who can hang on in mountains. He as a good chance of top 5 with no Quintana and Purito will be tough though.

I'm pretty sure it was Talansky and not Martin finishing 6th. Certainly looked like him.

It's Talansky, they already correct it on the website's too.

We all know the truth. Myself, Bye Bye Bicycle, NairoQ, and woodburn are the only ones to truly have earned the right to say we called this one. ;)

Absolutely agree, he has shown talent early on and is still young.
If he has a GT route that's favorable to him, a bit like Wiggo did, of course he can win a GT.

Nice win today, shame that we couldn't see almost any of it.

I wonder if Quitana does not regret now that he changed Tour for Giro. Sky is shaking a little and Froome might be beatable after all.

Porte is still more beatable :p :D

I understand that there are conributing factors, not least the fact that this race may have been overhyped.

But does this race have the largest disparity between the expctation of fans and the action on the road?

Looks like TJVG has improved in the mountains. But Let us not forget that he rode no time trial this year. Maybe he could get worse in them.
