Purito wants to win the stage + bonus seconds. Katusha controlling. The break doesn't get much more than 4 minutes.

Let's hope the weakness of Tinkoff-Saxo will get Contador in troubles.

I think Purito and especially Katusha are the only real danger for Alberto. But most likely, they will be contend with podium.

Too bad about Quintana. But is was already screwed by that crash yesterday.

at least I hope for some sick attacks (watts, vam) from Berto to have something for fun.;)

That hope was gone after yesterday's crash already. He simply crashed too hard. Of the remaining riders only Purito could do something, if he'd magically reach his 2012 Vuelta or better yet, 3rd week 2013 TDF form.

I'm not sure how the weakness of TS will get Contador in trouble. Either he can or cannot hold Rodriguez's wheel when the moment of truth comes. Whether or not Hernandez (or Zaugg) are around is immaterial

In case Katusha and Purito decides a podium place is not enough, and attack from far out. Or if Purito attacks from far out, and guys like Caruso/Vorganov/Moreno or Kolobnev in the break, will wait and ride their arses out on the flat parts or climbs. Tinkoff doesn't have the team to chase or made this move doomed. That means Alberto has to go by himself, or asking help from other teams.

But that chance is zero, sadly. If Contador was part of Katusha, he could have do a better version of Fuente De in some of the mountain stages (stage 16 or 20).

He's got the balls, or the qualities.

Philippe Mauduit, DS of Tinkoff-Saxo was vague about Contador's stage strategy.

“We haven’t decided to let the jersey go away or not. For sure, Alberto didn’t bluff before the Vuelta. He never told us that he’d be competitive. He only wanted to try. Now with Jesus Hernandez, Chris Anker Sorensen, Oliver Zaugg and Sergio Paulinho, he has the team he needs to defend the red jersey in the mountains. It’s wonderful for all of us to experience this unexpected situation with him.”

What would stop Contador from following Purito far out?

Hesitation, not the legs at that particular moment, caught by surprise, over-confidence.

Who knows.

If he hangs around for Froome - like he did in Dauphine?

He didn't hang around for Froome, there were too many dangers that he couldn't follow them all himself.

Here in a gt the gaps between 1st and 20th are bigger. You don't have to worry about tons of potential opponents, you just mark the 2 or 3 who are closest.

With Quintana out, pressure on Froome and Contador has intensified as neither can blame an in-form / prepared Quintana for not winning.

Both are looking at a crappy 2014 unless they can win this Vuelta.

I already said it yesterday, Quintana is so overrated. He won the giro this year only because he attacked while the field thought the race was neutralized. So low class.

The fact that he was the best climber in the race probably helped him win the Giro as well

So who was stronger than Quintana in Giro?
