Wow, what a fail by Purito. Why the hell did he attack from so far out?

Maybe he thought that Froome doesnt look good and wanted to put time into him?
Anyway, he managed to crack Quintana (not his domestique thought) so he got some time over at least one of his rivals

Boring except the last Km, I really can't call this "What a stage!"
Anyway, the big bosses schooled by Valverde, coming from the Tour...no other words needed...

Boring... and then that insane final kilometre

Ride of the day tied between Valverde who lead basically the whole climb, and Contador who came third :D

Super hyped for the rest of the Vuelta now that we know Froome and Contador are in good shape... shame about Nairito but his day will come :D

Contador past the test, although there is still a possibility that this effort will take its toll on his injury and he will be really struggling tomorrow.

Valverde extremely impressive.

Quintana a little short of the best on a shorter climb, but still not a huge problem, he wants stages with longer climbs and more harder stages.

Chaves did extremely well, was unable to respond when they really went for it but that is hardly surprising. Yates seemed to last for a while as well that is a good sign.

Evans just cannot climb any more. This result might be the thing that causes him to retire. I doubt he is going to go on when he has looked good of late but is so bad on this climb. He had absolutely nothing.

Curious to hear what he has to say. Did he really max out or was he finally relaxing in order to go stage hunting later on?

One can only hope.

Contador only rides a GT when he knows he can win it.

Once again confirmed. Piti screwed over quintana lol but can't blame him, quintana cracked a bit there

Another way to look at it is Piti is working for Quintana. Piti applies just enough pressure to make everyone hurt, but not drop Quintana. It's a long race.

Purito form is really bad.Today he didn't have punch. An in form Purito would have destroyed this climb. Also Katusha wasn't very good.Moreno was very bad.I think this will be between Contador,Froome and Quintana.
Chaves really impressed me today.Kelderman,Uran and Martin the biggest losers.

Called it at 3 k to go, Valverde is too strong. He was just making the pace and the faces behind him were suffering like hell already. Great win.

Yeah he did so with much weaker competition. Now he faces his own teammate, AC in improving shape and Froome. He showed weakness today no matter how you look at it;)

Unlike you, I am not inclined to make any judgements based on a 5km climb after a long flat part in the first week of the Vuelta. History learns that would be rather foolish :)

5 Spaniards in top 10. Pretty awesome for the hosts. Will be an exciting race. No way Valverde rides like a domestique anymore until he loses time (TT?)

Crazy uphill sprint, great win for Valverde after so much work, funny that commentators keep repeating that he was working for Quintana :D Froome looked great,Contador impressive too, this could turn in the best GT of the year.

I dunno but it made it exciting for us because then everyone else had to attack from too far out too.

One thing to take from this stage - Valverde will be on the podium at worlds.
probably. it was a strong showing from him.

hope that quintana will improve and/or get to the longer climbs. long range attacks > drag racing.

good final k.
