Any rider who costs twice the average spend per rider is defined as a major investment: their failure is likely to serious damage a team, but they are the ones most likely to determine winners.
I'll cover them here in order of most expensive pick.

Rodriguez Only selected thrice, twice as the only major buy (Crevaison, Trudgin) and once paired with Froome (GeraintTooFast)

Contador Almost as expensive, but only Hugo87 trusts his recovery from the tour injury. Obviously a man with great confidence in the medical profession, Hugo teams him up with Froome.

I was going to the Quintana and Froome double, but decided to risk it all with Contador, because even if Quintana and Froome managed to do 1-2 GC it wasn't podium guaranteed, this way if Contador miraculously recovers I will look like a genius.

But then again, it would be boring for me if he didn't go for the GC after a few stages.
