He tried, he was chasing but was not strong enough to get across on the climb.

Yeah, I know. But I mean, look at the riders who have bridged now. Surely Betancur could have bridged if he wanted to (two of his teammates even made it to the front!).

He is still well short of his best, one big effort might have been all he had in him.
