If only GVA would save himself, control himself, he could do so much better in races like this. With that big a peloton, an attack 4 km from the finish will never ever last.
But then GVA would be the wheelsucker and boring rider. Gerrans #2

We like GVA because he doesn't wait.
This :D But I agree with the above poster as well. GVA would win so many races if he was smart. Unfortunately for him and fortunately for us, he isn't.
I don't think it was GVA fault today. It was a great move with Kwiatkowski and Simon Yates. They could stay away.
But Gibert was leading the peloton to chase him down. This is stupid tactics from BMC. Yet again they sent out someone, but did not trust the breakaway.
As someone mentioned, it's very hard to attack and stay away with 4 km to go and a peloton of this size. I do agree that BMC's tactics were very weird though. They had Bookwalter and Dillier in the break and Gilbert and GVA in the peloton, yet they made Bookwalter take all the turns? Doesn't make any sense.

Rain in today's criterium and rain tomorrow! This is going to be memorable.

Jump in the hype train. Blue cloudy afternoon with city lights on.

Will there be wind too?
Would be good to thin out the field. Of course, this also suits Kristoff, so if his team survives, it could still be a sprint.

Hopefully this is too hard for Kristoff, or other riders really have no chance at Richmond.

Course is really protected from wind. The hill plus houses and trees leave few open spaces.
And, with this year's field, I doubt the sprinters will make it to the end....
OTOH, Rain can destroy the field but can also neutralize the race. hopefully it's the former.
I'm gonna get wet today...

As I wrote in another thread regarding Kristoff:

Montréal is too hard for him. Just look at the names that have been contending the last five editions.

Also, take a look at these quotes by Konyshev: "It was hard out there today but in the end Kristoff was better than last year. I think he spent everything today so we’re not expecting so much for Sunday Montréal." and Kristoff himself: "Sunday’s climb is too hard for me – the finish is better but the course is heavier so I don’t think I’ll be there. I will use Montréal for training as I look forward to the Worlds."

LOL. The same BS mind games like with Sagan 2 years ago. Kristoff in spring mode should not have any problem :).

I'd be very disturbed if Kristoff goes over Camillien-Houde with the other guys let alone win.

Peloton split in three. Gilbert and Bardet in the break.
Thx BigMac, anyone else of note in the front group?
Apparently Avenir's winner Marc Soler, who keeps attacking. Arredondo is trying to bridge.

It' been carnage, lots of big names attacking each other.

Gilbert and Bardet have come back to the main group. Now it's Marc Soler alone in front.

Voeckler and Taaramae have catched Arredondo and Houle. Seems like Botd forming.

edit: Soler catched. Updates here: https://twitter.com/GPCQM/with_replies

Thats some really sh!tty weather there. I suppose that less than 1/3 will actually finish this race. Not only raining, but by the look of the clothes they have it seems below 15 C. There seems some kind of break gone (large group anyway). Just started watching on one of the uncommented channels of ES. 150 k to go.

Thanks.

If ES player has it live maybe there's a stream somewhere? From the original broadcaster?

What a bummer.
