I remember when Kristoff left BMC saying he was lucky he got another team (because he'd done nothing whatsoever to show quality) and blasted them in the news saying he didn't develop because they have no coaches, no nutrition, no plan except throw money at stars and say 'go win races'.

Good times.

Conclusion
Only if you're an extraordinary rider you can make a difference on Paterberg after 250 kilometers. It's pure survival.
