All this rain is heading straight for the course.

I'm not sure how so many people don't like Sagan. Maybe because he is entertaining and if there were more like him cycling wouldn't be such a niche sport?

Anyway, I get the feeling that this will be an anti-climatic day
Yup, I fear that

Kristoff seems to have no interest in the green jersey after all.

Has been more or less invisible so far overall, will be interesting to see how his form actually is. After the season he had so far, he might just have hit a low.

Will Nibali actually attempt to attack today?
I would wonder if not
You all think he’s a great specialist in the cobbles. He’s not!
The only way he can gain time is if he sits 2cm behind Boom’s wheel and is escorted like one year ago with Fuglsang

If it's so easy, why didn't Contaor just sit in Nibali's wheel and got escorted too?

He might not be a specialist but he was dropping them last year and is obviously couple of levels above other GC contenders

LOL Sagan
What did he do?

When he, Cavendish, Greipel and Degenkolb contested the sprint, having gone off the front of the bunch, he jokingly indicated they should work together to maintain the gap.

It's not easy. But it is different to being so good on cobbles that he can just "attack" a field like this. On the other hand, if the race breaks up and is torn apart, Boom will be able to maintain a higher pace than the escorts of the other big riders because Nibali will be able to hang on better.

It’s not so easy. Of course Nibali can handle his bike pretty well, for sure better than any of the top 4. But bike handling skills matter much more with heavy rain than with no rain or light rain like today

If you believe Contador (1) his gears/deraillur were clogged with mud and couldn't shift and (2) didn't want to take risks in the rain.

Apart from the groping thing, he's arrogant, and he's not really won as much yet as his "superstar" status would suggest.

Besides, even if all cyclists were flamboyant/charismatic like Sagan, cycling will always be niche on a world level, simply because it's inherently, inevitably a boring sport (and I don't mean that in bad way).

So he's not a speacialist (which I agree with), but he's just much better handling himself on cobbles in difficult circumstances. So if the race was hard enough, why wouldn't he try to attack the other GC Contenders?
