I read they also showed cross which is a major loss, and I don't see others investing on it.

Yes they covered cross and women's racing. Not that I watched either.......

Pirated streams and the need to be available live to watch them sure is a technology set back for me :(.

I have no great hopes that another station will pick up the events and do them justice like Universal did. It was almost as good as the days of Versus!

Well, this totally SUCKS!
Without Universal, not much cycling and no alpine skiing coverage anymore. D@mmmmm!
If only I enjoyed US team sports like everybody else - life would be so simple.
I had cable installed after Universal stopped over-the-air broadcasting. But I'm not interested in keeping it to watch the Tour de Endless Commercial Interuptions on NBC. Time to kiss that $122/mo FiOS bill good-bye!

I've mentioned it here before, but I totally loved the streaming offered by NBCsports. It was well worth the money and the picture quality was excellent.

Can you not have Eurosport player in the US? Sure, it's not on the TV, but better than nothing.
Only if you set a proxy server, which I finally have done. But not everyone wants to go there.

This.....not going there. All kinds of legal complications of licensing violations etc. Plus it ties you to live watching and no recording for future use.

In 2016 I may change my mind if I get to desperate LOL!

If you have a mac, the Quicktime player can record live streams for future viewing/use.

LOL wish I hadn't bought this new Toshiba 3 months ago......

In '15 I went on steephill and followed links, mostly watching Eurosport, but sometimes Italian, Spanish, or even Turkish broadcasts. It worked out well, although the stream would sometimes freeze and I would have to get out and back in. Not sure that this option was mentioned in earlier posts...

I've been watching cycling live for ten years, but I still am forced to watch pirated streams via proxy at 240p.

Meanwhile my white trash neighbors get live nfl, nba, nhl, etc... every weekend in HD.

There is light at the end of the tunnel....

http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2015/11/16/nbc-universal-sports-olympics-broadcast-schedule/

I've been trying to find news on coverage of FIS Alpine skiing which was a Universal Sports staple that I'll miss as much as cycling.
At present the plan seems to be to split the former Universal Sports coverage between live streaming, NBCSN, and Universal HD.
So far so good...
I've been paying $12/mo for a sports package that included beIN and Universal Sports in addition to my $100/mo plan. Today I contacted Verizon to check availability of Universal HD.
All I need to do is upgrade my plan. New cost: $246/mo.

Thanks you sent me off investigating this!

Verizon sucks, switch to DISH!

I have DISH and I have a sports package with Universal Sports (now defunct) and beIN for $13). They gave me a 1/2 price special for 6 months, or $6.50. Then they found the Universal HD in their movie package and gave it to me for 1/2 off ($5) for 6 months. So I have my Equestrian and Figure Skating back on Universal HD!

Universal HD schedule shows the Santos Down Under so I'm hoping they get all the cycling coverage Universal Sports had. Now I can live my life and not worry about being available for live streams. DVRs are wonderful devices :).

My DVR found the first cycling scheduled on Universal HD; the UCI Track Cycling World Cup - New Zealand. It is scheduled for next Sunday. Since I don't watch track I have no idea if this live or relevant in the track sphere. But the old Universal had track events so there seems to be hope they will carry the old Universal scheduled events. I sure hope so!

EDIT: I checked out the track event and Universal HD has same day coverage. Bodes well for races like Catalyuna and Pais Vasco that were on their schedule last year :).

Well, it could be worse. Here in Canada, I've unsuccessfully looked for cycling coverage only to find 8 sports channels all broadcasting the same curling match.

...........................

Previously I could not get Universal Sports.

This weekend I've watched Women's world cup races from Aspen, Men's downhill from Canada, Skeleton from Germany, and bob sled from Germany. All on either Universal HD or NBCSN. Later today Women's coverage is on my local NBC station.

I find this encouraging for 2016.

Velonews has an article a few days ago about Universal HD's coverage and it doesn't look encouraging compared to what was offered on Universal Sports.

"Major events will continue to air, both on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) and NBC. However, the network will not air many smaller races, which were on Universal in 2015. Events left off the preliminary schedule include Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Le Samyn, Volta a Catalunya, E3 Harelbeke, and a few others. An NBC representative explained that the rights for those specific races were not part of the Universal acquisition.

Anyone here ever tried Cycling.tv? It cost's $80 for the year, but you get just about every race broadcast anywhere live and on demand.

NBC will also cover Olympic cycling events.

Yes, they'll do a horrible job but they will cover them!
I saw not the last olympic rr but the one before that online live and they just played ambient sound of the bikes and cars with no commentary and no interruptions. It was so great easily the best race I ever watched, listening to them click through the gears and whatnot. It was a transcendant experience that changed my life for the better.
