Mikel Landa ends up being Astana's hero, delivering the Vuelta win for the lesser Aru on a silver platter before heading off to bigger and better things at SKY Procycling. Poetic.

Landa hating should stop today for good.

There are some guys one just can't like, but I dislike him much less now. He has been an impressive teammate today.

Would be a great victory for Plaza, but Gonçalves really deserves something from this race after his riding

no it isn't tactical at all.

It's really simple, dumoulin couldn't follow aru. Nothing to do with tactics at all, he just wasn't good enough to follow him. It's not that he decided to let him go like purito did with contador in 2012

True and Astana anticipated on that by sending 2 guys ahead to eventually help Aru if he was going to drop Dumoulin. Dumoulin completely cooked now, but it wasnt certain he would crack completely. If Dumo was riding pretty well still and Aru was alone... Well then you never know, but now with his team pulling he's certain to win. So it's also tactical, but most of all Aru is stronger then Dumoulin on long climbs as shown during all the other long climbs this Vuelta.

He's redeemed himself, but calling Aru a lesser rider seems silly considering.

Say what you will, how often do you see attacks from 50km away on the second-to-last climb? Astana and Aru were bold and did everything right.
Nibali and Contador did that as well, in other races. But they did it alone, Aru had an entire team to back him up.

Hats off, Tom. You don't have to do anything more to make this Vuelta remembered for your exploit, just finish it, man.

If Majka gets a podium this will be the least deserved top 3 since velits iirc

he's been wheelsucking for the most part in the race but i know many riders who wheelsucked their way to a podium in a GT.

Can Purito at least try something. His gap isnt that big and now that dumoulin done Purito can hardly loose a podium spot.

Yeah, Majka is a bigger wheelsucker than even Gerrans. At least Gerrans sometimes takes a pull.

I see the Dutch brigade is already dropping Aru clinic hints. :D
I fear that they convinced themselves Dumoulin was going to win; against most available evidence.

Must be such a good feeling for Zeits sitting in Dumoulin's wheel at the moment
