If they are in SLdE why didn't they use the climb from 2011?

That doesn't make too much sense because that would mean going southwest direction and then go back to San Lorenzo in a loop, while they need to go north towards Navacerrada.

An option would have been to climb Abantos, link with the Collado de la Mina and descend to Guadarrama through el Alto de los Leones.

But that road is inpracticable nowadays.

I have really high expectations for this stage. 9 teams are still without a stage win and for many this is their last chance. Furthermore, all riders know that the Vuelta is almost over and for many this is one of their last chances of the season to shine, so I expect a furious battle to get into today's break and I expect a strong group to get clear. At the same time, Astana desperately has to keep it all together and make sure that the bonus seconds are up for grabs for Aru today, and they have to isolate Dumoulin - preferably early in the stage.

It should be fun!

That would be an incredibly stupid thing to do. They're only with 7... Total waste of energy. Attack attack attack is all they should do, not give Dumoulin a free ride. Send riders up the road, the more the better, to help Aru on the descent and flat later on.

Landa wil be a major factor. How much does he want Aru to win, knowing that he's going to another team next year?

Crazy start. After 20 km there are still riders trying to get in the break.

Navacerrada starts now.

At the time, Millar didn't even know he was losing the Vuelta. Apparently, fellow Spaniards from other teams contributed to the complot by even congratulating Millar for his overall win while the differences increased, so that he didn't discover the masquerade until it was too late.

We won't be seeing anything like that ever again with the multi-camera television coverage that we have going on.

Is that Zeits and Luis Leon Sanchez up the road?
Looks promising for an entertaining stage.

The peloton finally lets go of the break.

2 groups ahead. The first one consisting of 10 riders, the second one more numerous. Navacerrada will make the selection.

Giant at the front of the peloton trying to set a painfully slow pace up the climb. Everyone else letting them.
