Looking at Zakarin's zigzagging, I think you can make a strong case that his cutting off of Quintana was accidental. The guy just looks like he doesn't know how to ride a bike.

It's like that David Cronenberg film, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov went into a teleporter with a crane fly.

Giant is just not allowed to win anything this year, especially ITTs with Dumoulin!

Guess he'll just have to win the MTF tomorrow.

Considering Froome took it easy yesterday and saved his legs compared to the rest here, taking 0 seconds on Quintana in a TT is bad for his standards theres no denying that

I'm not sure what to think about froome. Yesterday he was way worse but its possible that he just didnt try anymore after he was dropped. Today however I'm pretty sure he gave everything he had and still he only finished at the same time as Quintana. I didnt find his weakness in races like Catalunya strange because he just wasnt in shape yet but Romandie usually is his first peak and while he was always very good in this race in the last years this was also a race where riders like Quintana already became a bit weaker. Of course it's possible that Froome just has a very different buildup this year, but I don't really see a reason why they would do something different than in the last years so could this actually be a sign that Froome just isnt that good this year.

Must say, Zaka's riding was outrageous today. He just can't ride in a straight line, I think he rode 500m more than the rest :p

His TT always has been good. It is just correlated with his form. Like many GC riders. It is not like Cancellara, Domoulin or others specialists who are always good.

Has Tonton gone crazy yet? :p
I'm just regaining my composure :D . Wow!!! I had him top 3 with TD and Nairito, but not winning. Wow! I feel like opening a "Thibaut Pinot is the new Eddy Merckx" thread ;) . I so wish Thibaut was riding the Giro. Top-5 at the Tour is definitely feasible. Wow!

Pinot really is in excellent form this year. Tomorrow should be a good stage for him, although it will be difficult to recoup 23 seconds from Nairo who is in excellent form as well.

Im really thinking that Zakarin cutting Quintana yesterday was just a lack of ability on the bike. The guy must be something dangerous inside a peloton.

did they have discrete timing on the climb itself? i'm curious how much of thibaut and Tom D's advantage was on the portion leading up to the climb or on the climb itself.

I re-watched yesterdays stage, and at least to me, it looked like he could and should have made in back into the group fairly easily. He was spinning a very small gear it seemed and never really gaining (sort of in limbo), then he pulled the chute. Like you, I expected him to be better here and I think this indicates he's not very good. I know others will wade in with his objectives are TdF (they are every year) and the Olympics, but that's true for all of the contenders who have fared much better in the first half of the year. Something is off with his training IMO.
