Amazing how Greg appears to be in good shape again. No one of the real puncheurs (not the climber-puncheurs) were even remotely close to the front except him. Of course to contest for the win was most likely going to be too much on such a stage.

Nice win for Herrada.

I don't see anything wrong with the Sky tactics today, they had the numbers and tried to play them. Sometimes work, sometimes not. Like this tactic much better than the train, which I except we'll see later on.

This was probably the best Tinkoff team I have seen in years, a very rare time when Contador wasn't isolated and had teammates controlling the attacks. Climbs weren't that hard, but still a promising sign.

Just caught up on highlights, although they failed it was good to see Sky give it a go. It would be easy for them to deploy the train and give Contador the wheel of Froome to follow all day. They still have Landa and Henao at just over a minute whilst Poels should be strong in the mountains. Hopefully they continue to mix it up and leave Contador isolated during those 3 final stages.

Why not go for Herrada again? This stage suits him less, but the guy is in monster shape right now.

Once again a good stage. Unpredictable and hectic finale. Hopefully, the peloton will keep the break close again and duke it out.

I wouldn't be shocked if Herrada wins the GC.

Great day for Sky, Kwia attacks then looses 13 minutes, Poels dropped, Henao useless attack and Froome sprints for nothing.

You forgot Landa's savage attack :)

Damn, I missed it!
Where was you hiding your vitriol irony when Nibali sucked in the Giro is what I'm wondering... prepare for the only tour winner you really deserve in july. guess who? ;) :p

Only if the big guys let him ride.

definitley!! amazing to see him in that kind of shape so quickly again. a few months ago he said that there are not so many puncheur stages in the tour and it sounded as if he wouldnt be that motivated for it but he clearly is in a good shape. STAGE 2 YELLOW!!!

I wonder how steep the black section is? From the profile it seems like the average of 13.9 includes 500m of red and 500m black. So the black 500m must be really steep.

Mind says Bouhanni, heart say x2 Herrada. Whoever wins, it will probably be a very good finale again.

Bring on Friday!

That final 2nd cat climb is pretty serious, narrow road and crazy steep, only 20km away from the finish and on the road home there is still some technical descent. If somebody puts the hammer down the race will blow up completely. I think today is unlikely to end in a sprint. Probably guys like Gallopin, GVA etc. will attack again and I think they have a very good chance to make it in this finale.

That climb profile looks incredibly much like the Muro di Guardiagrele. *** should be going down there. Great stage design

Lol, it's an ASO profile. It obviously isn't that steep.

This.
Remember the profile of Mont Brouilly in Paris-Nice a couple of years ago? And how it turned out?
The overal statistics of the climb will be correct, and the final 500m will be flattening out, but I don't think there will be a 500m @ 18-20% section, as this profile makes it look like.
But I hope I'm wrong.

Made a bet on Cummings, but i'm as clueless as all of you. Hopefully another stage with a lot of attacking from opportunists

We've got Terpstra, De Gendt and Claeys with 6' on the peloton. Smart tactics by Etixx and Lotto to send men forward, they don't have to work now for Gallopin and Alaphilippe/Martin, who are serious contenders today once again.
