There was a cut just before the crash and Contador and a lot of riders werent there.. and the crash doesnt afect too much the race, yes, it has it affection becoue the peloton was close to cut just before...people who cut was the people that couldnt be at the front jut before the 3 km line.

Once again Landa loses time on a flat stage due to inattentiveness or simply not having the legs. Much is made of his move to Sky and his participation in the Tour but he'll flop big time.

Landa is just the new LRP and Froome will be as isolated as ever unless Thomas is as strong as last year. That I have more faith in Thomas than in Landa shows that Astana will be the really strong team tht will rip the Tour to shreds.
Landa isn't in the race to win it. He's there for the next 3 days and riding in support of Froome

Yeah Samuel Martin should just shut his dutch mouth, look, if there's 3k to Togo after a crash, no way any times should be recorded at all. Agree 100€!

This is great! :D

Now... should we get the Hansen Confusion started as well

I agree with the others ....

Dumoulin needs to concentrate on time trials and GC rather than sprinting;
Martin needs to stop whining;
And Jack Bauer should stick to counter terrorism work.

Good Sir, this is champagne comedy :D

Nah, you want to prevent crashes and people getting hurt. Positioning yourself in a sprint may be a skill, but a being involved in a crash is largely not and mechanicals are completely random.

I think the best way for the rule to work would be to take the times at 3km and neutralize crashes/mechanicals at 5 km. You still need to have extra room in which you neutralize crashes and mechanicals, cause otherwise it wouldn't that much better than it is.

Really, the only disadvantage I see is that breakaways may get reeled in earlier in the first stages of stage races because they're a threat to the leaders jersey.
You also need to adapt this to hilly finishes, but I'm sure there's a way

The Route: some roads to ride today, a scenic trip across the Alps but there won’t be any time to look around for the riders. The short 140km course means things should be active from the start and the mixed terrain makes it very hard to control.

Things get serious with the Col du Barioz, a road that leads the race up to a scenic balcony road along the Belledone mountain range and getting up there is hard work, 7.8km at 6.5% but with some steeper sections along the way and all on a small secondary road. A similar story with the Col des Ayes, 3.8km at 8.1% and more hard work. Then comes the rewarding ride along the balcony and then the drop to Vizille.

The ride up the valley from Vizille is hard work, a steady gradient but often with a headwind in the afternoons but it’s familiar to many as the road leads to Alpe d’Huez. This time the take the turning to the Col du Glandon and just at the start of the Glandon is the turn off to Vaujany.

The Finish: the ski station summit finish of 6.4km at 6.5% sounds reasonable but it’s got a steady gradient of 8-10% for most of the way and then a flatter section as they approach the village of Vaujany. The early steep part is hard work, it twists with a few hairpins and if the road is wide it’s irregular with a constantly changing gradient, this might be a ski station road but it feels like an old path rather than a route engineered to take buses and trucks up to the top. The road flattens out as they enter the village but then there’s a hairpin bend and it rises at 7% for the final 300 metres.

I have a feeling Froome takes the jersey today, on the other hand, it should be a good climb for Alberto apart from the flat after the real climb.

Vaujany looks like a strange climb, seems like a double wall with some connections in between. The irregularity should favour Contador.

It's going to be a fascinating stage! For some reason I struggle to see Froome not winning.
Last year TVG beat him in a summit finish earlier in the week and then he improved a lot relative to everyone else.
Froome in recent years hasn't done that well in TTs and 13 seconds can change day to day in any stage race.
So i'm not worried for Froome's fans.

But i expect to see something similar to 2014, where Froome couldn't drop Contador but just beat him to the line.

At the prologue, Contador was the strongest, a bit stronger than Porte, who was a bit stronger than Froome.
Strength and form are time-varying obviously, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a reverse in the order today. There's always some up and down. Relative strength varies day on day.

But if you have a specific expectation as to which rider will be strongest today, and it's not Contador, then you believe in a trend, not in random up and down. What would be the cause of such a trend?

Tomorrow and the day after will lead to real differences, can't see major gaps today, although we might see the jersey change hands. Herrada for his second?

I reckon its too hard, but you never know - he was great in the prologue, but its different today obviously.

Contador will ride the last km solo. The climb is plenty hard before the flat section, and again people, don't trust the ASO profile, before the flat section at the top, the climb isn't *that* irregular.

Antonio, Juraj and Bryan dream of Nibali, Sagan or Alaphilippe confusions

In their cases the confusion probably mostly stems from "Hang on! There are two of them? "
Dunno how many times I've heard commentators say something akind to: "Sagan's at the front. Well, not Sagan, the other Sagan."
BTW... there are two Alaphilippes?

The "other" Alaphilippe rides for Armee de Terre (French Continental) and is three years younger. As far as I compare their results, big bro seems to be gifted :)

Let's just say Bryan has plenty of time to show his own credentials.

Granted, so far he "just" seems like a decent sprinter, whereas Julian showed plenty of promise before turning pro.

Yup it was not meant to underrate him as a future good rider. But in comparison, as you said, Julian seems to be ahead !
