Let's not blame Slongo anymore and maybe accept nibali isn't on the level of the big 3.

30 s back for Nibali. Might not make it back on the Descent
Hopefully he won't take too many risks. Doesn't need to panic yet, epsecially with Chaves likely to lose time tomorrow and Kruijswijk vulnerable with a relatively weak team.
He is still the favorite for the Giro win with the TTs and all he needs to do is limit is losses in the mountains

When did Kruijswijk become such a good climber? I know he did some ok Giros in the past, but this is something different and it's not like his season has been good until now, rather the opposite.

He has been looking like he had this potential for years - I for one am not surprised

Chaves on the other hand does surprise me a bit

Chaves shouldn't be a surprise. This is only his 3rd year in the WT. Only logical for him to get better.

Also, it's way too early to draw conclusions. He looked great in the first half of the Vuelta last year, but faded badly.

A stage with 5500m of climbing can cause crazy results, particularly if it's the first hard stage of the race. Riders doing well here could still easily fade later - recovery hasn't been an issue really so far, but will be massive in the final week.

Does anyone know where Majka and Zakarin are?
Behind Nibali and ahead of Valverde. Riding with Uran, but it would be good to know the time gaps to this lost trio.

Yep, he's also by far the most proven in terms of recovery. He's won a lot of GTs and no-one else here has. That final week is brutal and the rider that can recover the best should win - even if they are a couple of minutes back now.

Sure but Chaves and Krujswijk aren't the big 3. There's still a lot of Giro and Nibali is probably the most well rounded contender now that Valverde is almost out.

Oh yea nibali can still win, i never said that. But if Kruiswijk doesn't get weaker, i doubt it. Nibali having the better team won't do anything if he can't drop Kruiswijk, maybe descents
