To me there was a gap of over a second between Greipel and Demare, so Valverde should only have gained 3 seconds on Nibali and Landa

Yes, I was surprised that they gave Greipel and Demare the same time. That looked like a big gap.

There doesn't have to be a 4" gap. But there is a 1" gap which means the next guy is placed in the time he lost on the winner.

Yeah, they never do that in a bunch sprint. Only time I remember is MSR 2009 when Cav and Haussler got a 2 second gap.

Greipel just destroyed them :)
Also great sprint by Jungels. :)
Also Zaka gaining a few seconds along with Valverde is very good.
