This is for the breakaway I think. Adam Hansen will give it a go for sure. It should suit Moser well. Brambilla and Oss as well.

Brambilla would be too close on GC to be allowed to go into the early breakaway, me thinks. He's a good possibility for a late attack though.

I can see Wellens (again), De Marchi or Niemiec (or any of the Lampre boys) from a breakaway. Or maybe Cunego, he should do fine on the sterrato and especially the descent. Hoping for a Betancur show.

I don't think a lot will happen among the GC guys. Maybe someone's unlucky and loses time, but no major gaps between the lucky ones.

People talking about Moser, wouldn't he have an eye on the TT tomorrow?

all this hype around stratospheric nibs' abilities on suchlike terrains is pretty hilarious.
On wet cobbles Nibali is genuinely great. I still think it it's raining in Paris-Roubaix one day he should just turn up and see what happens. I know he won't win but it'll be interesting to say the least.

On Sterrato, however, I'm not so sure. He was 15th at Strade Bianche so I guess that's a good comparison but at Montalcino he was way down, for a number of reasons. I don't know what to expect at all from him. Preparing for the worst though.

For Oss, 8.6 km at 6.4% is way too much.

And what's all the talk about riding-on-sterrato-abilities? There is not something like 'specialists' on sterrato.

I think Valverde will win today's race and Dumoulin will extend his lead, because Dumoulin said several times in the dutch he was looking forward to this race. But moser has some great chances too he won the strade bianche already. But it will be a great race to watch :)

Hopefully no chance of EWP in case of heavy rain?

Depending on how Cancellara feels. If he is feeling good and want to race, the stage will go on otherwise he may just cancel the stage for being too wet/slippery

We have a first pass for the finih before the sterrato with pavé, good for Cancellara, but the climb is 573 meters, with slopes till 14 %, the best Cancellara has any chance here, this is not like Strade Bianche where the hardest sterrato climb is about 100 meters.

They climb a 1st category climb, similar to Arrate, If you put Arrate with sterrato, of course it will afect and of course Cancellara will be benefited, but not to win...

The clib is in 2 parts, and there is more than 1 Km of flat sterrato, that benefiits Cancellara, but anyway is too hard...just if nobody move, he coudl have a chance in the second part of the climb and the descent.

But he can do a very good work for Hesjedal in the first pass for the finish, with that cobble similar to the other day and to put him well positioned in the first part of the climb. For Hesjedal, who is very good in the sterrato and pavé and in the climbs, it is a perfect day...

I think Moser have some chances, but not becouse strade bianche, becouse this climb has nothing similar to strade bianche except the strade....

Vanmarcke did well in Strade bianche, but if you put him a climb of 200 meters he will have serious problems, so imagine almost 600...I think even hard for Moser, but with Moser it is a good day,it is not the climb, it is the descent, flat and the finish very good for him...

But as well Uran has some chances to put time on GC, and that is more important...I think, so Moser should help and use his oportunity if possible...

The positioning before the climb will be important, because the first half of the climb is very narrow. I'm not sure if riders like Chaves and Zakarin will be good at that.
chaves is about the best positioner in the peloton for gc guys

I doubt the break stands a chance today. There'll be lots of nervosity in the peloton. All teams will want to keep their leaders in front so pace will automatically be high.

I'm afraid he has to help uran too but when he may attack I give him some great chances

Let's hope the win isn't gifted (ie the break doesn't win)

I can see it now. Wellins has multiple minutes in hand at the bottom of Arcalis at this years first MTF at the Tour, and just holds on to win. Meanwhile, the Dawg puts his GC rivals to the sword, AX3/PSM style, putting himself in command of the yellow jersey. On the forum Froome's performance is largely ignored whereas much plaudits are given for the breakaway victory. Serious Sam struggles to bite his tongue....

It shall be like Lance on Hautacam 2000.

SS, do you also subscribe to Lance's phrase; "No gifts"? :D

Valverde the favourite again, but Movistar has a tendency to ride super conservative in GTs apart from the Vuelta. You rarely see them trying to catch breaks despite having the favourite which is something I've always had a bit of a problem with - especially last year in the Tour.

Its wide open really, nothing could happen and all hell could be loose. Too bad with the cancelled climb beforehand, the profile looks very lacklustre now apart from Poti.. how bad is the descent?

Valverde wasn't good in the stage to Rocarasso. In a stage really suited to him. I don't think he's THE favourite.

It looks like he's in '4th-7th place in GC' shape. In that kind of shape, you can be beaten by guys like Dumoulin, Zaka, Ulissi and Brambilla in these kind of stages.

Who's the favourite then?

Valverde is a pretty obvious favourite according to bookies.

Tom to unleash his inner Dumoulin followed closely by Ilnur Froomarin. Still hope that Vincienzo finally read Vino's letter.

I would rank Ulissi and Dumoulin just as high as him.

Interesting, then it seems there's many money to win for you on the Valverde/Ulissi duel if you can make it before the stage starts. If the probability of Ulissi and Valverde is even, 50% of who is finishing higher, and you have a odds at 2,62, you play that and laugh all the way to the bank.

He only said: If I didn't have the jersey, I might have taken todays stage really easy because of the TT. But that's not the case right now.

Fuglsang to defy Astana orders and abandon a struggeling Nibali.

He is going to be the Landa of last year in this Giro.

What SS would need most there would be a Jalabert-Dietz moment. All the plaudits of course went to Bert Dietz

He's not defying anything since it has been pretty clear from the get go that he has a very long leach if any at this Giro.
