breakaway of 13
second group with Nibali
Maglia rosa group.

Roughly 20 seconds between each group apparently. Seems another messy start

Let's hope the win isn't gifted (ie the break doesn't win)

I can see it now. Wellins has multiple minutes in hand at the bottom of Arcalis at this years first MTF at the Tour, and just holds on to win. Meanwhile, the Dawg puts his GC rivals to the sword, AX3/PSM style, putting himself in command of the yellow jersey. On the forum Froome's performance is largely ignored whereas much plaudits are given for the breakaway victory. Serious Sam struggles to bite his tongue....

It shall be like Lance on Hautacam 2000.

SS, do you also subscribe to Lance's phrase; "No gifts"? :D
What SS would need most there would be a Jalabert-Dietz moment. All the plaudits of course went to Bert Dietz

LS, I will have to assume that your tongue is firmly in cheek here :p

Just to confirm how much of a cycling novice I am, I don't even know the stage that you are referring to! I know that JaJa was a very good versatile rider (decent in GT GC, and one day hilly races), but know few specifics. Since my interest began at the beginning of this century, my main memory of Jalabert is in a multiple mountain stage of the Tour (but of course, for there is no other cycling race :D ) where according to Phil Liggett, he was "the hero of the day", despite being hauled in by "no gifts" Lance. I couldn't work out which was the lesser of two evils; believing that Lance was the hero of the day, or agreeing with Phil....

So I suppose by default, I became a fan of The Kaiser

No gifts, no soft pedalling. Tom is gonna make you work for that Maglia Rosa.

He only said: If I didn't have the jersey, I might have taken todays stage really easy because of the TT. But that's not the case right now.

Incredible how (social) media can bend words. I hate it.

The stage is going to be epic! Fun and games already started with Nibali in a group ahead of Tom D, and Brambilla , Moser & Rojas, among others, in front group.

Game on! :)

Strong Breakaway: Arndt (Giant Alpecin), Berlato (Nippo Fantini), Brambilla & Trentin (Etixx Quick Step), Rojas & Sutterlin (Movistar), Kadri & Montaguti (Ag2r La Mondiale), De Marchi (Bmc), Moser (Cannondale), Venter (Dimension Data), De Bie (Lotto Soudal) and Tsatevich (Katusha).

Not watching the stage at the moment... but did I get it right? Dumoulin and Nibali 23s ahead of the main peloton chasing the breakaway? :O

Madness. Why wasting energy so early?
Or something happened causing the peloton to split?

I think Brambilla has doomed this break.

Yeah, doesn't seem like they're allowed to go. Don't think Major Tom will be happy letting a guy 1:56 down go up the road.

Sad acts.

I hope they nail the culprits.

Sorry :)

Complete idiot to do that. Why would someone want to deliberately harm riders and their chances is beyond me.

Does anyone know what the weathers supposed to do by the time they arrive at the climb? Today could see a shake up for me. TD will stamp down his challenge this weekend his odds will drop fast.

I'm probably stupid for ever picking this guy, but I have a feeling Jose Joaquin Rojas (at 200-1) could go well. He's climbing well enough, the short uphill finish suits him, and Movistar will likely want to send someone in the break for the benefit of the team competition.

Maxim Belkov at 125-1 is not crazy either. He can fly down a tricky descent like this.

Of the "shorter" priced riders, De Marchi at 25-1 appeals the most. Dropping time yesterday like he did seems a pretty good sign he'll look for the breakaway today.
Whether it is stupid or not is up to you to decide, but his best result in this year's Giro so far is 32 on the third stage. He has lost time on all the stages in Italy so far :p

EDIT: JJ Rojas

Rojas not targetting stage wins in this Giro. He is Movistar road captain. Stays with Valverde as far as is possible.

Ahhh, excellent information. Thanks indeed.

Oooooooooooooo

My $45 on Rojas at 200-1 looking rather good now.

God I love cycling.

Who you bet with?

I had Brambilla in my betslip, put talked myself out of it because he was too close on GC, will be wounded if he wins.

De Marchi and Trentin are on my betslip, but I don't like the presence of Brambilla and Moser. Especially not Brambilla. It could all come back together.
