damn cancellara slower, i hope he will pace himself better than brandle later
He's not at his best yet, but 13 seconds isn't too bad. If he had been in march/april-shape, he would have crushed Brändle's intermediate time, though :(

Hepburn and Bewley both over 2.30 down at the first intermediate. Either they are pacing themselves muuuuuuch better than everyone else or yet again these antipodean alleged TT specialists show themselves to be over-hyped third tier contenders at this point.

bewley was never hyped. hepburn comes from the australian track circus which is a recipe for disaster for road pro's because they've been squeezed out at the track program age 16-22 en after that it's done. see cameron meyer and countless other examples as well.

well, my prediction for the time was way off the mark

The downhill aspect?

Tailwind?

Superb road surface?

Even possibly the winning time.

Many variables. Difficult to estimate.

Didn't Meyer win the TdS prologue some years ago?

Laengen has lost time and is 3rd at checkpoint number two. I wonder if Brandle has left himself suspect to a late charge beating him; he's looked weaker in the final 5k. The time gaps he has gained there are lower, although that could be down to the fact that it's a downhill and you don't have much chance to gain time.

Edit: Roglic is just awesome.

The last part only lasts about 6 minutes, so I don't know how much can one actually gain there.
