Gallopin does not seem in top form, but he has demonstrated being able to perform in wet & cold conditions - so he might be seen in the finale. It's around 1 °C now in Liège, and freezing higher up (coldest part of the day).

Apparently the temperature in Liege won't go beyond 3°C today. I hope the climbs won't freeze up or get snow else this race might become the biggest let down of the year.

Weather forecast

I really hope it will be just like this.

This isn't good though: https://twitter.com/Aymeric21/status/724152834992820225

Julien Loubet (Fortuneo Vital Concept) is the first one to quit the race after 9km :D

Family of Valverde wishing him well https://twitter.com/MerijnCasteleyn/status/724155717167517697.

It's cold, rainy, windy and cloudy in Belgium. Looks like a perfect day to stay at home and watch television!

Every year, we keep asking for rain in Paris Roubaix, and every year, Paris Roubaix has nice, sunny weather, if not some headwind. And now that me and DT given up on rain dancing for the season, Liege gets snow.

Let's just hope they don't have to cancel anything. The extreme weather protocol has been a travesty so far

Exactly. If some riders want to abandon, they don't have to ask for race cancellation in the process.

They realise that during the day it gets warmer and so the sleety snow or whatever it is will turn to just really cold rain? No need to cancel it unless if it is properly snowing at 2 in the afternoon.

Edit: and the roads are covered. Ofc, if it's snowing and the roads are fine then no one cares.

Course change
Due to the hectic weather conditions, the race organisation has decided to change the planned course. Indeed from km 45 to km 75, the riders will head south and return to the normal course just before the first climb of the day, the Côte de la Roche en Ardenne

Go to your motorhome alright, go drink a capuccino, freaking desist if you will. But why on earth do you have to call for race cancellation because you don't want to race?

No it is not. Serry nearly died in that 45°C stage in ToC.
You cannot just do n'importe quoi.

Very minor change, so far ASO are doing a good job.

It's not a fail, but it has to implemented in the right way. Right now they are racing and when things become too big of an problem they will change the course or if hell breaks loose they will cancel it. We can't expect riders to descent on snow covered roads. Let's agree that doing stuff like that is just immoral and crazy.

What happened in T-A was wrong though. Very wrong imo. The way they handled it in Paris-Nice was allready a lot better.

To be fair I don't think they would dare cancel L-B-L, even if they have to parade all the way to Ans. Too much at stake.

This bad weather news is bad news. Bad weather lessens the importance of maintainable w/kg and uphill sprinting abilities and instead generates chaos and unpredictability that make it less likely that the strongest rider wins.
