I don't see the point of including Ventoux in a stage if it's over 100 km's from the finish.

Yes, he'll pull a Tyler Hamilton :D .

If we're thinking of the same stage, he'd have to break his clavicle first to add to the drama and epic nature of his victory.

If any team goes even slightly hard onVentoux, Matthews will drop, this is in a different climbing league. I expect Tinkoff to distance him here, then Sky will help them.

Can Côte de la Roque d'Anthéron (4,2 km à 5,5%) and Col de Séze (1,7 km à 7,2%) make a selection after a tough start ?

I'd set 2 teammates in the break, and then attack on the Ventoux together with Majka, see how many you can drop.

Exactly. These aren't the days of Coppi. "One man in the lead"...to make for romantic cycling.

If they want to include a giant of the sport on the course, then it should at least be potentially decisive. As it stands, its just another high intensity effort. It doesn't do credit to the climb. I'll be happy though if I eat my words.

I agree, they should try and get someone in the break. Thing is, Orica will probably try and come in between.

Tinkoff should definitely try something on Ventoux. Set a high pace in the bottom with Kiserlovski, Poljanski etc., then Contador and Majka to try and drop Matthews and form a group with Thomas, Dumoulin, Bardet, a couple of the strongest helpers.

Will be difficult but not impossible at all.

As far as I understand, the last 500 meters of Roque d'Anthéron are about 15% average.

What is the point of that ...They are not a coalition

Contador, Majka & Trofimov need to drop Dumoulin as well and Thomas
But then there is Porte & Izaggire , etc

If fact every one is competition not just Matthews

I know, but if Thomas and Dumoulin are in a small lead group with Matthews distanced they will likely cooperate since they are both very close to the lead. Sky also have some strong climbers that should be able to make it in a smaller group and help Thomas.

And of course Contador has to drop Gearing Thomas and Dumoulin sometimes but not on Ventoux already.

Having looked at profile just cant see Ventoux as being decisive, too much flat after it till finish

Great win for Bouhanni. Nice to see the king of the races with no other sprinters in them finally give a couple of the big names a kicking. He was really fast there.

The only good about that profile with the last two bumps is to encourage a strong breakaway to adventure, but I guess Sky will be interested in controlling the race for G as well as Giant for Dumoulin
