Sick of crashes wrecking Grand Tours.

Proudhomme thinks it's great. The best thing about the prologue is that it stabilizes the race. Prudhomme ditches the traditional prologue and we got more early crashes.
Blaming Prudhomme for crashes is the easy thing to do.
It's just your normal windy stage.

The route is partly to blame, though, wouldn't you agree? Although I guess any stage with the possibility of echelons, regardless of placement in the race, would cause stress and mayhem

Agreed. Contador's hip might be the biggest issue. He'll lose some time tomorrow in the finish, but he should be good in a few days (assuming no further crashes).

I agree, but we're still ignoring the elephant in the room.

Considering his great opponents this may not be enough.

The crash looked freaking awful. He hit that street furniture really hard with his shoulder and hip.
I'm surprised he's on the bike again :surprised:

FFS... I am so pissed right now. But it could be much worse. It could be a broken collarbone and au revoir Tour... There will be some pain tonight and tomorrow, but should be fine by the time we get to the mountains. Now let's just hope that is his misfortune done for this year...

Because you mix the contenders with the sprinters all going for yellow on the first stage in the crosswinds and you have a recipe for disaster.

If Hamilton can ride the Tour (and a Giro) with a broken collarbone, Contador can too. The man's as tough as nails.

Can't say whether he tumbled or slid more. The bandage's telling the tumble wasn't soft.

Contador was likely lo lose some second tomorrow, the same than Quintana despite his great team. It is not blame of the crash if he do that.

He fall yes, but he was later behind cars and holding the medical car...it is not a big issue.. he can recover, the main problem is lose time today, and tomorrtow could be another rider...he took some risk, he shopuld know how the route is. He has all the yearto study his main obetive.

How would that be different if it's day two?

First week of the Tour is always nervous, just like it's (almost) always boring. So what, it's part of the sport.

He hasn't got a broken collarbone. He was dancing on the pedals immediately after crashing, putting a fair bit of weight on it. The worst he'll have from that is some kind of hip contusion - which could disrupt his sleeping and be painful at the start of the ride. But after about an hour or two riding, it will loosen up and he'll hardly feel it.

Should be fine by the mountains.
