Looked like an awful crash. Anyone see what caused it (beyond the general "it was a super fast messy sprint on the first day of the Tour" reason)?

Katusha rider hit the leg of a barrier I believe, he then loses control and carnage ensues.

That's exactly why Prudhomme is stupid for being "innovative" and ditching the prologue. First day is way too nervous and dangerous.
What did that have to do with ditching the prologue? It was just several sprint trains going at it and one of them got too close to the barriers. Didn't see any GC riders or anyone else trying to grab yellow getting in the way and causing problems.

Against Le Beau Marcel and Le Gorille...wow! What a win. Congrats Cav. What a sprint, what a win. Chapeau.

Morkov has got to be injured, I hope it's not as bad as it looked...

Danish commentator just said he thought he saw Mørkøv crossing the line not looking terribly injured or badly grimacing.. - though he could be wrong!

That was a spectacular finish. Well done Cav and like him or loathe him loved the commentary from Carlton Kirby on UK Eurosport. Unashamedly bias :)

Cav beats Kittel for the 1st time

No one beats Mark Cavendish fifteen (or so) times in a row.
Well, if he works and trains really hard, maybe one day Kittel's palmares will be almost as worthy as one third of Cav's.

Did Groenewegen go down there?

Kirby's reaction almost rivaled that Icelandic commentator

Hilarious win for Cavendish. I doubt if many people thought that he still had the speed to beat Kittel and Greipel after his rather ropey early season. Nice to see that he's not dead yet.

Cavendish interview:

'I do it for my team'

'I do it for the continent of Africa'

'I do it to get 5,000 kids on bikes'

What a legend.

He did it! I am very happy for Cav! A big champion like him deserves to wear the yellow jersey, and he took it in an amazing sprint!

Etixx and Lotto went too early with their lead out trains, trying to control the race from 5km out and has lost position by the last 2km. Kittel and Greipel both looked to have the top speed, but Greipel was way too far back and Kittel was in the wind for too long at the end.

Sagan went really early - almost like he was just content with 3rd or 4th place and didn't want to end up getting boxed out and finishing 10th or something.

It's the first sprint stage of the race. Nothing unusual, prologue or not.
