Guys like Porte has to attack tomorrow. He is almost 2 minutes behind the leaders. They can always safe Tejay.
Problem, you put the words Porte and attack in the same sentence.

still waiting for the Quintana attack before the 3rd week.. Movi wasnt too impressive on d'Aspin, maybe saving for 8th+9th like Poels+Landa were saved on the 5th stage and shoore enough they were in front yesterday...
As a Quintana fan Valverde's presence really annoy the hell out of me as he doesnt attack nor "clearly"(!?) help..
Climbers without iTT have to attack and maybe put some fire on the stage..
Sepulveda ftw

Valverde said he was going to lose time in the first week, so he could be fresh in the mountain stages for Quintana. The guy is clearly a pathological liar that only cares for himself. Sure, he let's teammates win small races sometimes... but only because he's getting something in return.

what a crock of shite,so far the race has been so weak he didnt have to save himself, because there was no action

not to mention on wednesday,he actually lead an attack followed by quintana for a while...but i guess you missed that

I like the way Valverde always has to cross the line first in whatever group he finishes in ! Now that's a real sprinter ! I thought Nibali's break yesterday was odd for a guy who is supposed to be riding support and getting ready for the Olympics !

I have a hard time deciding among 4 riders.

Alaphilippe - Will he be able to stay with the GC? He seems to ride a bit like Moreau back in the day, always getting over and into top 15. He looked strong, and tried to attack at the top, but laters says he was at his limit.
Pantano - He tried to be in the break yesterday, will he be there today? He came in +4, which is pretty decent.
Diego Rosa - I have a thing for this guy, he came in alone at about +5, and looks strong, but is he good enough on the flats to get in the break?
Plaza - Will he be there in the Breakaway, is it his shot today? He came in abit further down yesterday at +6:41

Plaza will be riding for Yates today because Orica have a shot at the yellow jersey.
Hard to tell if Adam Yates was his normal self or still a bit concussed when he was interviewed after yesterdays's bump on the chin.

Three jerseys are at stake today.

Polka dots: If you want to win it you'd better join the breakaway today. I don't think De Gendt can keep it. Majka might have a go if his team allows it, maybe Rui Costa, and several French riders: Voeckler, Gallopin, Moinard...

White: I don't understand the rule that puts Adam Yates ahead of Alaphilippe in the GC in spite of finishing behind him. The top 5 here is really close. Alaphilippe might take it back. Barguil is still my favorite for the final victory.

Yellow: I have a theory that there's a coalition between Sky and BMC, meaning that they won't ride against each other. Sky will react if Quintana, Contador or Aru attacks, but other riders might get freedom. More than ten riders have a shot at yellow today. I think the top favorites won't want it yet. Valverde might take it for one day with the boni seconds.

Good analysis IMO. It's probably going to be a real race of attrition in the main pack today. I doubt Alaphilippe makes it past Azet with the main group unless they reeeeeally softpedal it (wouldn't surprise me). Hope some GC players aren't saving themselves for tomorrow. I figure you can make a bigger difference on a stage like this one unless they ride Beixalis hard tomorrow before the finish...

Cycling Betting Thread
What's wrong with discussing betting in this thread as long as it's related to today's stage?
My opinion:

Firstly, discussions about betting, gambling, fantasy cycling etc, has no relevance to the stage at all. It's so boring and irrelevant, detracts attention from the race and puts it on individuals, bookies, gambling sites and so on. It's very annoying when trying to follow a race and a race thread, to have it filled with irrelevant posts. It's like people updating us on how their own TdF stages in Pro Cycling Manager are going, it's of no interest to anyone. That GamblingWebsite has strange odds on RiderX is just as uninteresting to people not gambling.

Secondly, gambling addiction is common, especially among sports fans. It ruins lives, every day. Littering stage threads with triggers to gamble is highly unnecessary, it should be about the race.

Solution: Discuss those things in other threads where it won't bother anyone.

Again, you can feel free to ignore me if the mods do indeed encourage that type of discussion here.

Have to agree with you. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary talk about gambling sometimes on these stage threads. Gambling odds have no effect on stage outcome.

You sure about that? I don't think they will just let Valverde or Van Garderen go.

Personally I see this as a Bardet stage. But at this point they'd have to catch the break because no way the peloton would let him go. We'll see.

He probably won't get much freedom now that he's so good in the GC.

Yes, the final suits him and he might try something.

Valverde probably not, but he's more likely to target the boni seconds.

If Van Garderen attacks - which isn't likely - Quintana would have to react and Froome would have to react to Quintana.

Long time listener, first time poster. Agree wholeheartedly PM and considering the work you put in on the stage summaries would hope people follow your wishes.

Appreciate the work you put in, makes a mug like me feel like I know something after I read them

Bala rode solely for Quintana on stage 5. That's more than Nibali has done in his career

Nibali has helped a team leader in at least 3 different Giro's, two of of which where won.

Agree with your post on the whole, but the events on a virtual game are completely different to what are effectively bookmakers' predictions of what's going to happen in the real stage. Is there really much difference between saying 'I think Rider A will win today' and 'according to website X, rider B is the current favourite'? Both are completely relevant to the stage. It's not a text commentary feed, it's a discussion forum, so you are going to have race threads littered with opinions and discussions as a result

Isn't crashing in the neutral zone very very rare?

Not really, actually.

Fabio Felline has been injured rather badly in a neutral zone crash in Amstel Gold Race this year, Chris Froome crashed in 2013's TDF, J Rod did the same last year and Geraint Thomas last year in Tour De Suisse. That's just from doing a quick search.

Probably because Yates got the 1k banner in the head while he had a 10-15 sec gap on the main group. That would be my guess
