Barguil recovered well for a guy who was dying on the penultimate climb, finishing with Aru and Nibali.

IMO both Quintana and Porte rode absolutely disgracefully today. Quintana didn't attack one single time, and Porte (although he attacked earlier on the climb) just pulled the group without even trying to drop anyone although, or because, his teammate was in troubles.

Porte may have been trying to solidify the team roles, making it clear to Tejay that he is now the strongest and will need his support later.
It was absoultely obvious he was stronger than Tejay, but pulling Froome and Quintana so his teammate looses time is just a disgrace. Porte himself knows that he often has a bad day and he knows that he is already far back in gc. What if he looses minutes in the alps but his teammate is out of contention because he pulled other riders to the finish.

Nah - It's simple - Porte follows Quintana and Froome and he will get a good placing in GC - No point Porte waiting for TJ.

Think that Quintana is just going - Doubt he will drop any serious time in a stage - Then again he is capable of having one big day in the mountains.

No surprise the three best climbers Froome, Quintana and Porte finished together.

Yates, Froome & Quintana finished together. Yates sprint saw Porte drop a couple more seconds.

I'd hardly worry about one or two seconds - There were five riders at the finish Froome,Quintana,A.Yates, Porte and D.Martin.

Smart riding by Nairo. This time he's close to Froome at the end of week 1 and can therefore afford to wait until week 3.

Well, first there's week 2, which has a 37km long rolling TT (which favors Froome more than Quintana, imo) and a ___________/ stage (Ventoux), a type of stage Froome always shone in in the past (PdBF 2012, Ventoux 2013, PSM 2015). Let's see how how much time Quitana has to make up at the end of week 3.

BTW, why is Sky changing their tactics and sending Henao on the attack instead of setting tempo until they are completely deflated?

I actually think it's a brilliant tactic.

Henao going forces Froome's rivals to chase him down, if they have the legs, while Froome can just sit on their wheels. Instead of his rivals attacking him, it's Froome that is indirectly attacking them.

And if they don't follow Henao, Froome has got a team mate ahead if he decides to attack himself.

... not really because once Henao is caught and dropped like yesterday and today Froome has to cover all the attacks. If Quintana had put one in too that could have been problematic.

Buchmann fights his way from 23rd to 22nd today. One step closer to that magical 20th.
The team said that they'd value a stage win higher than a top 20 on gc.

Good. He should be targeting the remaining mountain stages, particularly the multi-mountain ones where the break has a better chance, and trying to get into the break. As an aside, that's probably his best hope of moving up on GC too.

Shame they prefere Germans and don't let Barta do his thing.

I don't really understand this. What is Barta being stopped from doing? Bora's first priority has been to get one or better still more of their riders into every break. That includes Barta.

Froome is waiting for Ventoux I think. None of his attacks today were long ones.

Yep, attack on ventoux and hopefully gain time and gain a bit of time in ITT's. Then just use the team and follow Quintana.

That sounds like riveting racing. I'll be sure to tune in.

Henao wasn't dropped yesterday.

Today he didn't make the final selection but it was late enough in the climb that Froome didn't need him. He's already helped ensure no team other than Sky had two riders. He was stronger than both Van Garderen and Valverde.

Maybe they think Nairo will be as nationalistically jealous of Henao as Froome is of Yates and D.Martin, so that NQ won't be able to resist chasing down his countryman because he must be best Colombian. Who knows?

It is strange. I guess it's a way to see if any of Froome's rivals are really struggling without him having of launch an attack. Where the tactic fails is that Froome chased Henao down as soon as Martin had joined Henao. Froome should just ride tempo, stare at Nairo and ask him what he is going to do about it.

Dawg is a lot like Lance (not a clinic reference) - he needs to be the big cheese and get all the attention and glory and money.
