Short stage, so it will be easy to control, no time for early break to establish. There's a group of 15 top climbers coming together at the top of the climb and to the finish, because everyone is fresh. Talansky wins the sprint to the line and gets 10 seconds time bonus. Lopez finishes 4th. Talansky wins the race.

Let's face it, 95% of folk on this forum could have ridden today's stage in full.

And at the end we'd all have gone for a hearty beer in Davos.

Well, I'm in those 5%.
Which I, honestly, think the majority is. Easy to call people pussies and talk about how "I could do that!" when you're sitting at home many 100 kms from the race.

So... any links to anything about the shortening? So far all I've seen has been here.

This is all there is on the official website:

http://www.tourdesuisse.ch/de/news/detail/news/die-letzte-etappe-wird-verkuerzt/

And I really think 95% of us could ride that stage, no problem. Sure, not at an average speed of 40 km/h, but that's a different matter.

The shortened stage is surely very much in favour of Lopez

Thanks. (Glad my German isn't that gone!)

And that's the main difference, ain't it? The pros are sorta expected to ride at an average speed of 40 km/h, and if they don't they're critisised for being boring. So, what would you rather watch; a short stage that's being ridden quickly, or a long stage that's being ridden slowly?

The weather is really annoying this year. Paris-Nice, the Tirreno stage and now this, while the weather in all cobbles classics was good. I'm still surprised no giro stage got cancelled.

I'd like to see a picture of the Albula descent before calling it bs, if snow was a legit problem on the descent then I can understand it.
It sucks, but if it was a legit problem and not just a few riders crying about the cold weather then you can't really blame anyone.

The other big difference is that they are paid to do this —so I'd expect them to both ride it and do so at a decent pace.

I'm 100% in favour of shortening or cancelling stages when the riders' safety is in danger, but I've got the feeling the "extreme" weather protocol is being abused when riders simply don't feel like riding in the cold.

We're not expecting any snowfall, but we made this decision out of respect for the riders, who have been suffering bad weather since the start of the Tour de Suisse.

New amendment to the Extreme Laziness Protocol:

"Race officials may decide to shorten or cancel a stage after an arbitrary number of days with bad weather decided by Fabian Cancellara."

That's what you get when race organizers cooperate with Velon...

Ok, it looks like there actually was some snowfall on the Albula, to me it still looks ok and the road seems to be fine, but at least the stage wasn't just neutralized because of bad weather, it was snowing on the descent.

Joe Dombrowski making fun of the shortened stage on twitter.

In regards to the weather at Tour de Suisse today can we all just hold hands, sing Kumbaya, and do a civilized group ride?
