He is 21, what the heck folks. Leave him be.

We didn't create the hype :D

BTW he will be 22 in July so it is not like he is some junior teenager. Also, LS or neither did I say that he will not be winning races left and right.

Some of us just have the opinion that his wins will come from "easy-flat-crit" type of races, that's all.
Yes and some of you make it sound as if that's some sort of crime against humanity.

Yeah because some people don't have anything better to do than belittle someone, the kid has won races and has a hype surrounding him so unless he delivers straight away then its not good enough for them. Like Sagan winning Green at the Tour without taking a stage was some kind of failure which is completely ludicrous.

Is it really belittling somebody to say "the guy has talent but it looks like he's going to be best in X and Y and not Z so let's not go overboard?"

There's a balance to be found somewhere. The kid has great talent, but at the moment he just doesn't have the durability. Will he develop it? Maybe, but as he's good enough that he's come through to the pro ranks - which are generally more specialized than the espoir ranks - so soon, and has been good enough to win a particular type of race, he may well be shepherded in that direction.

When somebody gets success early, the hype train goes off in all directions and starts foisting unreasonable expectations on them, with anybody who tries to apply the brakes to that hype train being criticized for hating on him. I don't hate Caleb Ewan, why would I? I just think he's more a pure burst-of-acceleration flat sprinter than a durable one.

Is Caleb Ewan the new Andrea Guardini? A master of early season races, stupendously quick but lacking in the endurance or climbing nous to get over many obstacles, meaning when he gets to the finish he's a favourite, but he'll get dropped in a lot of places others wouldn't?

What kind of conclusion is that? Master of early races???? Just because he obviously peaks for his home race?

He won Spanish classic in April moving to podiums in Norway and Turkey, before another podiums in August in Poland to win a stage in Grand Tour - in his 1st year...

What kind of endurance you expect him to have at 21?

As much as Bonifazio did last year. Or Gaviria has right now.

He is a pure sprinter, I feel. Climbs or endurance isn't the thing for him; most likely he'll become the new Cav with less good endurance.
Not sure about Gaviria, I think them two are on par. But Bonifazio got beat by Ewan at Poland and Norway. Caleb is also a year younger. At 21 Bonifazio did not even go top 3 in TDU, Ewan won 2 stages. He has the advantage of home race though, but not much of a leadout.

I'm talking about endurance and climbing ability. Straight line speed then Ewan>Bonifazio, although Bonifazio was slightly younger last year than Ewan now and isn't peaking for the race like Ewan has done. But ofc Ewan is quicker.

But I can't see Ewan getting a top 5 at Milano Sanremo any time soon.
