Maybe Contador just doesn't have it today or doesn't care and wants to just get this Vuelta over with and get ready for next season.

So if you ride "sweep" after a hot race, can you pick up a lifetime supply of bidons from the side of the road?

That would be stupid. Finishing on the podium is always better then a horrible 4th.

And ending this Vuelta by attacking belongs to Contador's standards anyway.

I think Contador will just wait until the Froome/Quintana showdown and go with that on the final climb. All in to gain back on Chaves.
I'm hoping Chaves goes full *** and bumps Froome to 3rd place

Or he's holding back a little for the final climb?
The climb is very long, he shouldn't panic. If he wants to protect 3rd, be should ride tempo regardless of what Froome and Quintana do. He cannot blow up now.

I guess Contador is banking on Froome attacking from the bottom of the climb and him being able to follow.

I really like this stage. There isn't one absolutely outstanding thing happening like in the formigal stage but there are many interesting things going on at the same time a bit like the arrate stage in pais vasco this year.

That would be awesome. He's used a lot of energy already though; must be banking on Contador feeling weak and then it will just be a question of who fades least on the climb.

Keeping my fingers crossed. But even a runner-up finish for Chaves would be pretty epic.

Trofimov is finally there

Howson most probably pre-dropped from the break to be "just in time" in the right place while Trofi was probably already descending when the news came to him
